View Full Version : Anyone know where I can find frog eggs/tadpoles?

Would like a few to raise in an aquarium to show my son (He doesn't believe that tadpoles turn into frogs).

I've walked around our area, but haven't seen any (Sage Hill). Anyone know where I should look? (Hopefully somewhere in the NW)

Thanks!

Think it might be a tad bit early, but Panorama Hills might be a good place to start, I've seen frogs in the ravine during the spring and can hear them from my house

Sea Monkeys are a trip as well:

You can order them online, tiny shrimp really but they have an entire backstory that is kinda cool when you are a kid.

Update: There's a big wet pond close to the show homes in Panorama Hills and there are tadpoles in there. Still a bit small but worth checking out.

Thanks! I'll swing by after it stops raining. Is it the pond that seems to have all the cattails in it?

Nice site.. but doesn't show any tadpoles?

Speaking of which though, are there any places that sells frog eggs, or people who might be willing to collect for me? Might save me from having to run around town with my son :)

It's this one:

Close to the all the cardel condos and has a fairly large playground.

Bring your son along to catch them. That will be fun!

Went there yesterday, but didn't see any tadpoles. There were tons of freshwater shrimp though! My son had fun playing in the park, but not so much looking in the water.

Thanks again though.. we had a pretty good time!

Kids got some tadpoles out of the pond on the top of Nose Hill last week, things are growing like crazy at home.

There's a pond on top of Nose Hill? Do you get in via the parking lot on top of shaganappi?

We did manage to find a little tiny frog on our lawn.. Any idea what to feed it that isn't live? It seems to like maggots (I bought them for fishing), but wife isn't too crazy with maggots and worms in the fridge.. :)

Pond is NW of the 14th Street parking area (north of the Winter Club) - light colored area in middle of this Google maps link (http://goo.gl/maps/YjGs).

Apparently any type of green veggies like lettuce would work.

I feed our pet frogs live crickets from a pet store. Some types of frogs will learn to eat frog pellets that you can buy there as well. However, it is most likely that you will need to feed it live prey items such as crickets, waxworms, etc.
