Checking out a campground I've never been to. Just nice to get out this afternoon.

Yeah thats a wicked road. One of Calgarys best kept secrets, as I do that all the time on my bike when it warms up. Damn nice road until you get to K country at least. Like I was saying in your camping thread; at the end of that road is Blue Rock Campground which is just awesome.

Make sure you give it a go other then the May Long.

We were out that way last weekend checking out Sandy McNabb. It's a nice area.

yeah, the road was closed right at the Sandy McNabb campground turnoff. Must open up May 1st? (same time as the campgrounds in that area?)

^ Yeah its still so far out of the way (past Turner Valley), I cant see too many people heading down there, unless their a bit of a nature buff. I should post some pics of fall in that area, the colors were just amazing. A little touch of the foothills just at our back door really.

Sounds about right, whatever it says on the sign, but it should be on the Parks Canada website as well. Yeah it would be way too much to maintain that road in the winter, especially with all the sharp embankments, so they just close it. Like I say past the entrance to K country, man it gets rough, and thats not considering the cow shit on the road sometimes.

I love Sandy McNabb (and Sheep River for that matter) but must check out Blue Rock. If you haven't already, go to Sandy McNabb in the winter, ten times better than in the summer, especially when that pond freezes over.
