View Full Version : Moving from wind - ??? Plans?

Ok, maybe you guys can help me out...

Since we moved, no longer in wind home - when at home (and about 0% probability we'll see coverage in the next 5 years). So perhaps it's time to move back to the robellus; as the roaming charges keep escalating, and wind's not playing ball much more to keep me...

Device will be android (use multiple apps that are 'droid only)

Going by my current bills - I'm averaging about 450mins talk, 45mins long distance (sk/on), 700 texts, 1.8gig data. Currently with wind, I'm 35/month, plus 30-40$ 'roaming' data...

Looking at the Kodoo/Telus/Rogers/Fido/Bell - I'm basically looking at doubling my current cell bill - when you factor in the rural use, data, long distance; most of them we're talking about 120-150$...

Figured since we're on contract with telus for the home phone/tv/internet - they'd cut me a deal... But so far they're probably offering the worst price/plan...

Are there some plans/promos the stores aren't going to be offering me?

Koodo, has Free Cdn LD with all their Plans, Include Free Caller Id, voicemail, and free International Sms. Pretty good deal...

Yeah, but if I go with their 50$ unlimited plan, and 1gb for 50$ plan... I'm still paying by the mb for another gig or so of data - so at least another 30$... And even though it says unlimited - only 50 txt's included - .20/per after...

For the usage you described with Wind, pretty good chance that you won't find much better with the other companies out there, as they will all run you in the same ballpark as you are paying.

Have you concidered mobilicity at all? My friend was on Wind and got shitty coverage downtown in our building, where the phone wouldn't work on the east side of our building at all, switched to mobilicity and it works everywhere in our building. I am on mobi as well and haven't had too many areas that are dead, works perfectly fine for me most places I go, and my house in Evergreen. Worth a shot perhaps. If you go with any of the big 3, based on ur usage, you would be limiting yourself and paying probably more.

Whatever you do, don't get yourself tied up in a contract, just ditched Rogers after 15 years, best feeling ever

I'm with koodo, I have unlimited calling anywhere in Canada, 2 gb data, vmail, call id and unlimited texting for $80 a month, been very happy with their service and reception is phenomenal throughout rural Alberta (telus towers).

Not sure if your wife/significant other has a phone with data too, but the Telus small business plan seems reasonable.
Only hitch is that you need to activate 2 lines...

You get a $400 port in credit if you're coming from another provider, and you can get the Galaxy Note for $50-$100 which helps subsidize the cost.

Do you actually need to provide proof of your business to get a business plan?

Apparently people have gotten away with just a business name or business card, no follow up.
