Is there any VW forum out there that is not full of sheep and elitist dubbers? I'm getting hated on pretty good at vw vortex because I put 18" wheels on my car and not oem 14" rims with stretched rubber that sits flush with my fenders.
Its so hard to find a car forum anywhere where the people aren't part of some cult and ostricise somebody for doing something different.

Not to many active ones unfortunately. I agree about vortex though, elitist is being nice about it. Dasdubbers.org is local, but not very active. eurodrivers.ca is also local, not a bad forum.

It's fucking ridiculous, seriously. They are cutting me apart (new member) from top to bottom because I have 18" wheels and not 15" wheels!

Jesus christ all mighty! Lol. People need to get a life!

Yea, your taste is your taste. People need to relax. Try those forums and see, not as large scale as vortex, but like I said they are not as bad.

I have the 13" stretch on one of my dubs, but I also have 18" on another. If you think it looks good and like it, then go with it:thumbsup:

I have plans to buy an 05 GLI sometime in the near future and have been frequenting some of these forums pretty regularly. I've noticed a lot of the same thing. One guy does something different and a bunch of guys attack him for it. Of course it's all personal preference, but fortunately, there's no handbook to modding.

No suggestions about forums, but if you find another "good" one, feel free to share...

I mean really, does it look THAT bad?! Love the wheels, I'm not parting with them. I love how they look how they fit, and they're going to look fantastic with the new paint job shes getting next month. Haters hate!

Yah, those look pretty bad. But hey, if you like them who cares what everyone else thinks about them and your poor choice of rims.

:poosie: :D

I think the major problem is you are really going against the cultural VW grain. When I picture an older VW, large rims don’t come to mind. If you like them though, who cares what everyone else says / thinks? However, I think a nice set of gold Daytons would be deadly! Hahaha!

I don't follow, or submit to doing things how others think they should be done. Which is why I am slamming a VW on 18" rims with lowrider pearl paint. Fuck'em is what I say. When you go to a dub show, or see dubs on the road they ALL look the same. Low, tiny wheels, stretched rubber, etc

I personaly like both styles. For the summer i ussually drop the coilovers and put my 17's on my mk3. Although if i cant find a replacement rim, (stupid potholes) i might go stretched look.

Your car looks pretty good with the 18's. Any rubbing issues?

And yes, there are rubbing issues but I'm taking care of those with a proper set of coilovers, the kid who had the car before me cut the springs on it so I'm waiting for those to come in before i go bomb around the city in it.

It looks great with it gone, but on the other hand this is calgary and people love to give door dings

Ya, its notorious for coming off on pretty much all the mk2 and mk3's. Are you thinking of just pulling it all off?

Yeah strongly, however only one piece is missing off the drivers front door....I am putting in a ton of time andmoney into the paint job and get worried big time about door dings especially daily driving it

www.eurodrivers.ca is probably the most active local forum.

Ignore the people in vwvortex, it's full of americans who don't understand personal preference, and fear change.

I got some real hate when I mentioned raising the car up for the winter. From people in Pennsylvania. I'd like to see what they have to say after a drive down 14th street in March.

If the car isn't black or silver and slammed on air, then it isn't going to be loved on that site.

Vortex is good for DIY procedures, not for opinions.

no one loves anything on vwvortex..

if it is a "sheep" car, then the non sheep hate on it.

if it is a non sheep car then the sheep hate on it.

www.dasdubbers.org user sawedoffgolf has a mk2 jetta coupe he is parting out with small trim if you need the piece of trim and other bits.

I am biased in my website choice, that being said I am on eurodrivers for my mk5 (and associated parts) and dasdubbers.org for the mk2,mk1 stuff.

This, forgot to mention eurodrivers tends to be newer(ish) stuff. MK4+, B5+

Looks great especially at that ride height. However, huge rims make stock brakes look puny.
