Please also note that because of the way pet food is distributed in Canada and the USA, that you could very well have in your possesion a recalled bag of food even though you may live in an area listed as safe. Pet food bought in Alberta can be sourced by retailers from distributors located anywhere in Canada or the USA

^ big thanks for posting this. It turns out that we have Kirkland Dog food, Lamb, Rice and Vegtables with a best before as at Dec 30, 2012 so it would be affected by the recall. However, the recall only concerns bags with a 3 in the 9th position and X in the 11th position which is not on our bag. Close call!!!!!

Noticed that none of the better Canadian made brands of dog food are on this list - Champion Acana & Orijen, Horizon Complete and Legacy, Petcurean Go, Now & Summit, Holistic Blend, Canisource. That's not to say that these Canadian manufacturers don't encounter problems as well, but they all produce their product in their own factories where they can over see production and the control of that production line.

Diamond Pet Foods, on the other hand, is a well known producer of their own line of pet foods as well as many other company's pet foods meaning that these other companies are at the mercy of Diamond's production lines and quality control - the melamine pet food recall of 2007 also included Diamond pet foods and a host of products that they produced for other companies including Costco (kirkland), Nutro, IAMS and a multitude of others (link (http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/newpetfoodrecalls/)) - pet owners need to start questioning what is in their pet's food and who is actually making it.

Was going to say this sounds like just another garbage mass produced dog food co. ie: proctor and gamble (iams). I would never feed that garbage to our dog...

Ya we used to feed our dogs Innova Evo but switched to Acana/Orijen after Natura was bought out by Proctor and Gamble. Still in the process of determining which flavour my dogs like best. My schnauzer (see avatar) is a very picky eater.

Do you guys have Blue Buffalo brand? My dog is super picky and she loves this brand. It's rated pretty high on www.dogfoodadvisor.com

That site rocks. My dog has been on Horizon Complete for a long time and I think I am going to switch to Acana.

Recall now expanded to include several Solid Gold products - info here (http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm303371.htm).

Another great independent dog food rating web site is at http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ - a lot of their results mirror what can be found at the Dog Food Advisor web site.

Diamond Pet Foods - Wikipedia link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Pet_Foods). They're kind of like the Menu Pet Foods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menu_Foods) of the USA. One should be a little bit wary of anything coming put of these two company's plants because of their recall history and things don't appear to be getting any better as per this latest recall.
