I found this Japanese place a couple months ago. Decent food and relatively cheap.

Tojo's review is quite polarized probably because of price and high expectation.

Yeah the butter beef dish and wings at Phnom Penh are pretty good.. it's in chinatown and always busy.
June 1-3 is also the Vancouver Food Festival if you guys are in town and enjoy that type of thing..
Both night markets in Richmond will be open too.. the only reason to go is for the food lol

I have been there twice and both times it was a dissapointment. Japanese is Japanese, as long as its fresh, its good.
Still nothing better than sashimi in Japan though
Oh, and i live in vancouver, own my own food business, and have a culinary arts background, so i'd like to think i know alittle about food

I'm curious to what you had, because it was fucking tasty when I went.

it was a few years ago so i dont really remember.
however, id like to retract my statement. there food was just not my cup of tea. i prefer more simple japanese, while tojo has a more unique style.
im more of a nobu fan, which i have had a few times. more simple foods, cost about 3 times more than tojo but was damn good.
i would like to also add that food is food, everything has different tastes. just because i say its not good, doesnt actually mean its not good to everyone.
a good friend of mine also owns tokyo thyme in kerrisdale. its japanese/mexican owned. both are japanese chefs, and the mexican also used to work at tojos. great food plus good prices
cheers

Well something we agree on. I hit up 4 different Nobus around the world over the summer back in 2010, and 2 of them are my favorite sushi joints of all time. London, and Vegas.
And yes, better than Tojo's. Tojo's is only my favorite in Canada.
For sushi I preferred Tojos to Nobu London. Atmosphere was also a lot nicer. There was douche in the air at Nobu :P

If you are in Burnaby at the Metrotown mall, this dim sum place is great: http://www.fortunehouserestaurant.com.

Sushi garden by metro town but only for Alaska roll, extra sauce.
It's Korean owned, portions are enormous, packed all the time. More people usually better the odds of being fresh from faster turnover.
Food trucks are nasty
I suggest not eating night market. Be warned

Surprised people prefer Nobu to Tojo's.
I found Nobu to lack flavor (London - Mayfair).
Also, the 300GBP bill without drinks didn't help either for two people...
