FYI there is a meeting May 8 in Calgary for an update from MARCS (Motorsports, Arts, Racing, Culture, and Sports) hopefully about a future track near Calgary and I will update after the meeting: The MARCS Committee group has been working diligently over the past year and would like to present their findings. A presentation on a proposed business model for a future racetrack will be held on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:30pm at the Cardel Theatre and will include future plans and further direction. For all interested parties/groups we encourage you to have someone in attendance as your feedback is important. Cardel Theatre 180 Quarry Park Blvd. Calgary, AB T2C 3G3

As seen on other forums... any info?

Good plan is in place, location not announced as of yet. Plans for a 2.7 mile race track (RCMP was 2.2 miles) and separate 1/4 track (I believe/hope)

Will be outside Calgary, but close enough. Proper group leading with ability/financing to get it completed. Target is spring 2014.

On a side note, castrol raceway near Edmonton should have its road course open this summer.

Only 2.5 hours away, once we have both tracks going I can see racing series coming to life, been along time coming.

Now to get my racecar R32 GTR with LSx and a couple of snails completed :burnout:

I'm in the process of acquiring a road race ready Swift GTi, so both tracks are also relevant to my interests, not to mention time attack and plain ol' lapping days.

Sounds like some good people are on it in Calgary, lets hope it's not like how Castrol was supposed to get a track a decade ago...

The latest I heard with Castrol is that the roadcourse is scheduled for a fall completion, which would probably mean next year. They're already behind schedule.

From twitter on Castrol:

Road Course construction going Fast. & Furious, Phase 1 completion tentatively scheduled for mid- June. More photos will be posted on the Castrol Raceway website by Monday

Whatever phase 1 means?

WOW! I'm am continually amazed at the overall responce[sic] to the construction of our road coarse[sic]; it seems people have been just biting at the bit to get circuit racing in Edmonton. Although I hear many ask "are you really going to build it this time?" with blatant disbelief (Although I'm not sure why- we have never announced intentions to build until this past year; everything previous was just rumor). But YES>>>this time it is for real!
We will be completed this year; likely mid to late summer. At this point we are about 90% complete on the groundwork of Phase 1 and about 60% complete on the groundwork for Phase 2. We will begin the groundwork completion as soon as the frost is completely out of the ground- ideally this week (let's hope we don't get that snow they are calling for at the end of the week- 42 d. today-so looking good). Asphalt companies do not start producing again until the May long weekend; if the weather is perfectly on our side we will begin to pave directly following. This should put us on schedule for a mid summer opening. If our spring is anything like last year (2 solid months of rain May & June) this will obviously through a small wrench in our plans and prolong the opening. Weather is the key factor, keep your fingers crossed for a dry spring. I am so thrilled there is as much excitement from everyone else as there is for us; this is a huge endevor[sic] for us and it's great to know it will be well recieved[sic]. I'll get a few pics posted as soon as contruction[sic] re-starts and continue to update on our progress.

Phase 1 is basically half the course... something like 1.4 km of the full road course. After Phase 1 is complete, they'll start work on Phase 2. You probably can't road race (for cars anyway) on just Phase 1... too many cars per the given distance, unless they limit the number of entries. However, no reason why you can't do track days on it.

i was told it will all open together (castrol) and weather depending... end of aug. but for that to happen it pretty much just cant rain all season

the delays were due to flooding in the area where they were working. they spent more time pumping water than building track

The above statement makes me laugh. You have to realize I am building electric superchargers (seriously - see us at driven), and I find the above statement funny. See link below as to why it won't.

Balzac and grey eagle are different groups.

I sincerely wish them all the luck in the world.

Grey Eagle, now that is a different story. However, they stopped holding autocrosses there because of noise complaints from the neighbours. Don't know if you know, autocross cars are silent in comparison to drag and race cars. Maybe if it was further in or by the rock plant.

If it is in Rocky View County, I wouldn't even try. Their Council is mostly anti-development... we couldn't even get a christian church that was bounding the Calgary city-limit approved because they are so anti-development. The church wasn't going to affect anyone as it was going to take access from City of Calgary roads...

Well, at the very least we know that the people behind this one have the money. I'll see if I can prod a friend of mine for more info.

the "track" in balzac is a horse track, not cars.

Rockyview................is Rosebud not part of the Rockyview County? If so then my guess is that they changed the name from Badlands to Rockyview and that it's the same track most of us have been hearing about the past year or so. Last I heard it's still 100% happening, probably still gunna be another 3 years before anything is built tho...........we need something sooner!!!!

From what my friend was saying they're looking at a much more compressed timeline than that. Probably not open for next year though.
