so what did you do to rectify or relieve it?
this is the second time i've done it and it really sucks, just looking for opinions or suggestions. did you get shoulder arthorscopy done? did it work?

My friend who has done it multiple times, most recently at hockey one night (watched him set it lol :barf: ) he went to the doctors and they signed him up for surgery to shorten his ligament or tendon or whatever strand of bodily elastic holds it together.

I dislocated mine a couple years ago from hockey and it hasn't been the same ever since.

I just do rotation exercises and stretches but it always pops out every once in a while and have to pop it back in. The feeling is horrible and it always feel weaker after.

Had an ultrasound and only solution is physiotherapy. Le sad.

i dislocated my shoulder maybe 10 years ago and still have issues. Although mine stem from a partially torn rotator cuff that happened from the dislocation.

Are you talking about setting it while it's still dislocated? Because thats generally what you do to rectify the dislocation.

Or are you talking about the pain and it happening again? Go to physio get them so teach you some shoulder strengthening exercises.

Dislocated mine 19 years ago now... After I got through physio it wasn't a problem - other than it snaps crackles and pops real good when the weather is a changing...

Did it the first time 2 months ago. Going through physio atm. After the ~2nd week I could move it and such, but it was really weak. As long as you use it more and more it'll get stronger, just don't push it. Strengthening exercises / stretches do help a lot though, especially with the rotator cuffs.

Early on, after you dislocate your shoulder it'll be sore, weak, difficult to lift your arm for a week and you'll probably have trouble sleeping too but it'll be less painful the more it happens. I've had probably 15-20 in my left and it's to the point where I probably feel 70-80% as good as normal right after I put it back in place, not saying it's a good thing.

You should go see a physiotherapist and do physio ASAP though, it's happened to my right shoulder as well but only around 3 times and after physio nothing has ever happened to my right side again. I started physio on my left side very late, probably 10 dislocations in so at that point it didn't do anything for me. Getting surgery this Thursday for it

Let us know how the surgery goes and good luck

Mine never dislocated, but I had a SLAP tear so it would keep "clunking" if I raised my arms above my head. It was PAINFUL. I ended up going for the arthroscopic slap surgery which was even more PAINFUL.

To put the pain scale in perspective, I've had 3 spine surgeries, including an L4/L5 lumbar fusion with titanium rods and screws and the shoulder stuff was exponentially more painful.

I would try physio and exhaust any other options before going for an invasive procedure.

I dislocated/subluxated my shoulder multiple times (martial arts), and finally had arthroscopic surgery on it to repair 3 tears roughly 7 years ago. Surgeon was Dr. Lo

- they had to wait for the injury to heal before they would do the surgery (~1 yr)
- Post surgery - a lot of pain, and likely 6 months til full range of motion was back.
- physio 1-2 times/week

It is still weaker than my other shoulder, but it does not dislocate anymore. Previously it was at the point where it would dislocate in my sleep. 7 years later though despite physio, and proper rehabilitation I still have some chronic back / neck pain due to the difference in flexibility and muscle imbalance side to side.

Bottom line: The surgery will help, but is by no means a quick fix. I find I have to keep the shoulder strong, and continue to lift weights/exercise otherwise the problems come back quickly.

IMO - physio, etc. will work initially (as it did for me the first few times) but you will eventually dislocate again until you have surgery.

Did you start doing physio? Have you gone to see a doctor yet? I would recommend Dr Wiley at the UofC Sports medicine centre if you need to see someone about it.

You should also do what you can to avoid doing those things that's making your shoulder dislocate. For example, for me I was dislocating my shoulder going for blocks or steals in basketball when I use my left arm (and occasionally if I get bumped really hard) and so I started using my right arm exclusively. Same with chin ups,
I dislocated once from it and I haven't done chin ups since.

Btw I had my surgery almost 5 weeks ago, pain was not very bad in my opinion post surgery. Took pain killers on day of and the day after and that's it. The pain killers really sucked, made me feel really nauseous and :barf: a lot.
As long as I didn't try to raise my arm or anything, the only pain I noticed as when I was sleeping. You don't notice it right away I think it just starts hurting because you've been lying in the same position for so long. This only happened for the first week.

I'll be out of sling on Wednesday and starting physio on that day as well.

I got the surgery done about a year ago up in band. Nothing but good things to say about it. Shoulder has not dislocated yet and is now stronger than my good shoulder before. Physio is the real key tho, I no people who got t done than just dogged the physio and no results came from it. I would recommend dr Paul hunter from Marda loop. Great physio, and awesome guy to talk too.
Good luck

I had a 3rd degree separation (tore all of my muscles, ligaments, and tendons) and shattered my shoulder basket about 5 years ago... No surgery, no physio... No pain:thumbsup: It doesn't bother me in the slightest, back to full strength, and I gain an easy 4" in reach with my right arm lol...

I've seen specialists and the most common answer I've received is hmmm... lol

Use your arm as much as possible (day to day tasks) to keep it "active" as I find your body will heal "to the conditions"...
