Do you get a new plate every year? I just found out you can as it's included in your registration fee.

Don't really see a point in getting new plates.

So people can park at Impark lots, not pay, then get tickets for not paying, then not pay those either. I think eventually Impark will get your car towed if you have too many tickets.

New plate each year = clean slate to park without paying again

I love my plates. I have always had these two plates for almost 20 years. I hate remembering new plates.

I have for the past few years. All cause of impark ticket lots.

When I was young I would always get a new one so I now have about 6 plates that I can use on my vehicles, and they are all 6-digit plates. I like them all so I stopped getting new plates because I want to keep using these ones :) I never park without paying so I don't have to worry about switching them to avoid a tow.

I cant remember my damn plate after 6 years, the last thing i need is a new one to try to remember each year.

I've only got three of the 6 digit plates, but I'll be using those for the foreseeable future.

I guess if you have a really old plate that's getting all cracked and broken, you can get 1 new one when you renew. Rather than just out right paying for one - not a new one every year.

Im keeping my 6 digit plate since it is one of the last ones issued. I also have 4 more kicking around, I wonder if the number can be re-activated?

Doesn't impark eventually send you to credit collectors based on name and address and not based on plate #

You are missing the bigger picture.... more digits, means more complication, which means less people who can remember it and therefore less people who can report you for pulling stupid stunts.... especially you! ;)

:werd:

When I was picking my plate for the new car I picked the 7 digit plate which I though would be hardest to memorize from the ones I got to choose from lol

I was able to get two plates with my last name as the first three letters. I always get comments about how I was able to do that so I think I'm gonna keep them for as long as I can.

They can't, people got pissed off they were getting calls so the governemtn took their access away. The can send you to their internal collections, but you dont have to pay them either. They are named in a way that sounds legit, something like "Alberta Credit Collections Ltd." or something along those lines. I think most people hear "Alberta" and figure it is the government calling and pay up. They don't like getting called on their bluff either.

That's the same as putting "New Driver" on the back of your car  The ultimate would be like "ASN-8888" or "AZN-8888".

Having said that, almost contemplated a new one as my buddy noticed that a few months back, they were at "BFG-xxxx". Would've loved to land BFG-9000 hahaha.

I laughed when the dealer put that plate series on the wife's van... Then I cried when she figured it out and went out to get a BBY plate :) Grrrr!

While that was true in 2004, they regained access to the registry database in 2005.

As long as the plate expired on its own, i.e. you didn't report it stolen or you canceled it before expiry and got a refund.

I was following a car with the plate BFG-8963 the other day and couldn't help but think "should have waited just a little bit longer"... :D

Nah,

I plan on keeping my plate for as long as I can.

I just happened to order a custom plate though for my GTR when it gets here in Canada. First one as well for that too. Waiting on approval for the government since my first decision was deemed inappropriate apparently

I have a custom plate which is my last name...which was kind of silly in retrospect in terms of the anonymity factor.

I guess when I feel like spending $250 again, I'll change it.
