In KL for another 9 days.

Have to do some work M-F, so I'll have evenings free. Will also have tomorrow (Sunday) and next weekend to check things out.

Anyone recommend some good tourist spots in the city?

- Petronas Towers
- That other tower
- Shopping??
- Good bars/rests ?

Thanks! :)

Petaling Street is good for picking up some cheap crap.
The Central Market has some good, relatively unique stuff.
The malls in Bukit Bintang are worth a gander for well known brands.

Some interesting old buildings in the Majid Jamek area to just wander around.
Little India's not too exciting, but you may as well walk around there at some point as well since you'll have the time.

Half day trip to Batu Caves is worthwhile.

Place is ridiculously sketchy.

Ask your concierge or taxi driver for the fun bar districts, and don't walk there regardless of how close it seems.

Petronas towers are cool but the tickets to go up often sell out - plan to head there early if you want to make it up.

The malls are cool (especially the one right by the twin towers), but I don't personally care about shopping or designer clothing. The food courts have some pretty good food, but nothing on Singapore.

Batu caves are probably worth the trip.

beware of the monkeys @ Batu lol, i've seen some ppl give them a handful of whatever just because it's cool, but they wont go away after that.

if you have time, Genting Highlands, theres like an amusement park and a casino from what i remember

Petaling Jaya as said is great for the fake stuff (Lorex and designer knockoffs, soccer jerseys etc) but idk if you're okay with haggling cause it's definitely a must use there, don't get taken advantage lol. right next to it is a night hawker strip, all that good street food vendor stuff.

Bukit Bintang is the place these guys above are talking about i think, it's got 10+ large malls, kinda $$$ tho. also theres a hawker street that runs next to this iirc

i haven't been for awhile but that's what i can remember, never got to goto Sepang though, that's one i regretted not being able to see, it was a track day for all those rich playboy types too :(

as for clubs, i only remember going to one or 2 with my cousin, one was a bar that all the F1 drivers would party at and the other was a club that was actually sanctioned by MoS, the latter was the better one imo. Also they call the discos there lol, not clubs.

maybe lots has changed since i've been there, i do know my aunt telling me they've been cracking down on the fake stuff mostly at PJ.

edit: iirc there are a bunch of car performance shops near Sunway if you're into that

J-D What do you mean about this? Im staying right at Bukit Bintang, theres always people out but it seems pretty cheery. Wasn't sketched out yet. Is there an area I should stay clear of?

9 days is a long time in KL. I stayed for maybe 3 days and that was more than enough for me.

If you do petronas towers. You have to go at 9 am to buy your ticket. Then come back later for the tour.

Petaling is good and cheap, but 2-3x more than same shit in BKK.

I went to Skybar at the traders hotel, that was an amazing bar. Perfect view of Petronas towers and there is a big pool in the middle.

You want a club, maybe try Zouk.

Yeah, I stayed right on Bukit Bintang too at the Marriott. Walking around there is perfectly fine. We were going to some bar district that was fairly close by and popular, the concierge seemed to think we were insane for suggesting that we wanted to walk there instead of taking a taxi. I don't know how bad it really is, but I just felt a ominous vibe around there (and I've traveled around quite a bit). I got harassed by a bunch of sketchy prostitutes in the bars, too.

Overall, the worst part of Kuala Lumpur for me was the ride to/from the airport. They have one of the highest rates of fatal accidents in the world, and we saw a few in the first 24h we were down there. Make sure the taxi you get at the airport has working seat belts!
