Okay so the new noise Bylaw was passed this week...it went from 11:00 pm to 9:00 pm...who else thinks this is totally ridiculous? It's hard enough to get anyone out for a noise bylaw violation at 11 let alone 9...and race city has to send the big muscle home at 11 due to the noise bylaw, now what?

From my understanding it more for construction guys. Ie no house building after 9pm. However, I wonder if that means the cops will be giving out more tickets to guys with really loud mufflers after 9pm. :dunno:

It is for the whole city, special events such as the folk festival ect. have to apply for special permits to run after 9...the only thing exempt so far is the stampede

I think it is just stupid. Poor construction workers are pushed enough to get houses done, now they cant start up the equipment until 9.

Sounds like we should kick all the old people out!

I think Race City might be an exception since there's no residential nieghborhoods close by.

Now I can call the cops on my obnoxious neighbors who rev their engines all night long.

I thought it still had to passed. From what I understand, it is being brought to council today, but i could be wrong.

bronconnier (sp) was on CJAY today saying he is not a big fan of it and it was to early.

You know it's not a good plan when the mayor sees it as "regulating common sense"

so they are saying that construction people can't START until 9am also??? Thats BULLSHIT IMO. It used to be something like 7am right?

totally unfair for workers etc.. IMO

I am pretty sure that it is still waiting to be cleared.. thats what I heard on the radio this morning... and it does SUCK big time...
I think that 9pm is WAY too early.... I can't see why 11pm was fine... it was still early if you were to have a house party or something on the weekend.. but now its suppose to be 9.... FUCK... most ppls nites are just starting at 9 on the weekends...

The bars and shit downtown are gonna be F*CKED!!!!:thumbsdow , not that I go to them.. but still... LOL

Well how would it affect bars when most of them open until 2am anyway?

What constitutes excessive noise? When a neighbour complains?

the thing that i was wondering is how are they going to inforce the law of "excessive noise" or will it just be a subjective decision made by the cops??

Bylaw officers will enforce it the same way they do now. They have special meters and tools to measure noise and then they have been trained to use their discression for the other stuff.

The noise limit would be 50 dB... which is less than a regular conversation b/t two people.

And it hasn't gone to vote yet, I believe it goes next week sometime. The good news is that 7 of the aldermen are against it, so it doesn't stand a chance of being passed.

I know someone who got two noise tickets that required him to go to court plus pay outrageous fees.
All for playing his winamp on around 17%.
