rolling the idea around of heading to NZ for 2-3 weeks of boarding.

Requirements are:
- Snow
- Night life
- Terrain park

Was thinking of Lake Wanaka on South Island as a staging ground, then chasing the snow elsewhere if the weather isnt cooperating.

Anyone been? Share some experiences? Is north island worth a look?

Thanks

Forget Wanaka if nightlife is a requirement. Queenstown's your best bet for that, and it's only a 1-2 hour drive to get to the hills near Wanaka anyways.

Was a really crappy snow year when I went, so I only went skiing at The Remarkables, Mt Hutt, and Mt Ruapeho (N Island).

At all of them, the lifts were slow and uncomfortable, and there were lots of terrible boarders/skiers. The coolest terrain was at Ruapeho, as it's all volcanic and completely unlike hills around here. Mt. Hutt had the best snow and decent terrain, but staying in Methven is pretty dull. The Remarkables was icy and busy (school holidays...), but I expect it could be good.
