Here's the brand new motor that's going to power the entry level AMG's next year. A45, CLC45, GLC45 and maybe evena B45.

Interesting... Curious to see which 2.0T motor turns out to be the most potent down the road.. 4B11, MB 2.0T, or the 2.0TFSI?

Good move on MB's part though

Nice pics.
Whats the power specs?

350-380hp, 320tq.

Engine was designed by same guys responsible for the Mercedes F1 engine.

Not sure what VW can do to 2.0TFSI. But 350-380hp, 320tq from Merc is quite a gap to catch up.

Not a fan of the A but CLC45? yes please.

It will be a Chrysler Tiger Shark with Mercedes valve train and Fiat multi-air / direct injection. And for cheap.

Edit: Sorry, it's 2.4L.

Hmm, closest competition right now seems to be the Turbo 2.0 Boxer engine: 296 hp, 295 lb-ft.

Still a pretty big difference though.

Wow, I'm amazed at how much HP per \litre they're getting these days. It seems like yesterday when 120hp per litre was impressive.

Honda did it N/A 13 years ago.

Shit people have been getting 300whp with B18 hondas for 15 years now as well..

350 out of a forged 2L IS impressive.. For a factory car.

Revs kill a motor, not power levels.

I really dont think the 4b11 can do that. When it first came out in 08 it was rated at 291HP and 300torque and about 220-240whp.
For 2011 Mitsu had a way better tune and the same engine was putting down about 250-270whp depending on the dyno. It looks like after a simple tune with no modes it might get close but it would be hard to tell.

Good on AMG!

^^^^And torque does kill engines.. and tons of SST tranys.. lol

Impressive they can get that much power out of such a tiny engine yet still maintain reliability. I dunno, anyone else suspect that once it reaches production status, HP and TQ figures will also decrease? Man to get 350 from 2.0, that's gotta be pumping over 20psi... Can we also say MASSIVE turbo lag? Still... 350HP on tap and 30MPG if you take it easy LOL.

True.... but Honda was only getting 153 tq out of it

Huh? It's a Mercedes engine, loosely based on the M266 (2.0L Turbo, 200hp 4 cylinder).

MB says they're targetting highest hp/L numbers with this engine. In terms of boost, remember, today's turbo engines run a lot less boost because compression ratio is much higher thanks to DI. I'm curious about the lag myself, especially at our elevation.

Wow, when is that CLC coming out and how much?

The headlights on that car look the be more complicated than most car's engines lol!

It was the lofty RPM that inflated the HP figure, much like BMW M cars with their 8k rev range.

There's no way the production CLC headlights will be that crazy. It'll have standard Mercedes Intelligent Light System setup, which is an autolevelling and turn pointing light system.

From what I've been able to find out, here are the timelines for the new cars:

A - Fall 2012 (MY2013)
CLC - Fall 2013 (MY2014)
GLC - Fall 2014 (MY2015)

AMG 45 variants will be available around 4-6 months after initial release. The A-Class cars are the only ones that we're not sure about for Canada/US markets yet.

The CLC class will sit between the B and C class in terms of pricing, while the GLC class will be the entry level SUV, priced below the GLK. If I had to guess, the CLC 200 (200hp) model will be priced at around $45k to start, right between the B200 Turbo and C350 price.

If we do get the A here, it'll be priced very similar to the VW Golfs, GTI and R.

I want to know the release date for the GLK55, haha.

I love V8s now.

Not to mention worse fuel economy than most v8's. Hmmm no torque and bad fuel efficiency what's there not to like :thumbsdow

Sorry, I was referring to the winner of the HP battle, not what MB was using.

I would expect very little lag due to the the higher compression ratios DI allows but to make those numbers the turbocharger is probably considerably larger than what you see on most 2.0L engines so it could have some lag. I would assume it's a Borg Warner turbocharger? Impressive engine for sure.

uhhh no inter/after cooling?!?!? With that kind of power being generated....? Or is there some kind of hidden water to air unit?

Of course there is cooling.

You can see the hoses on the picture of the engine on the bench.

Cobalt turbo with a stage 1 kit is approx 320tq and 295hp, gm has been playing with that engine ALOT since the cobalt, newer versions have debuted in buicks and soon the volt. I still give gm props for getting that far.

But holy fuck that MB motor is a monster lol

I think he's talking about the charged air cooling that the turbo is generating and not about the engine cooling.
You can't see anything under that plastic engine cover to know how the charged air is routed.

I think we're going to see a lot of 4 cylinder turbos in the near future. Lot of companies want to cut emissions and improve mileage while still giving good performance.

For example:
2015 Nissan Z rumored to have a 4 cylinder turbo.

I heard 2015 mustang will have a 4cyl turbo option too.

Yep. Will be getting a 2.3L ecoboost engine in the range of 270 hp.

Hah! Do they dare call it the SVO?!

And yes ealier i was referring to air charge cooling either by traditional intercooler or maybe some kind of water to air unit aftercooler (usually what it's called in a supercharged application). duh, figured that was kind of obvious... air-cooled engine.. pffttt whoever heard of one of those? :D
yes, i know...
