Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone volunteer or work for the Stampede?

I need information regarding the rodeo and/or grandstand seating.

Thanks!

Also, who's going for 2012? I didn't go that much last year so it's time to saddle up this year! I found that if you alternate, you don't get over-saturated with Stampedin' and get bored.

I wonder if there are new eats this year...

Is this the kind of seating information you're looking for?
http://cs.calgarystampede.com/tickets/seating-maps.html

Or something with more details down to the rows/seat numbers?

Well, for a 100 year celebration, I'm a bit disappointed at how its been setup. Stage acts this year are pretty bad, and the zipline set up looks kind of lame.

At least there's still junk food and turkey legs to indulge on :D

Oh, and be a gambling addict

The only thing that looks good is the Loukoumathes. Other than that, it looks mighty disappointing.

I was looking to find out which spot is the best to see the events. Sometimes, front row isn't optimal but I don't know if that's true because I've never gone.

Am I being naive? Found seller through Kijiji for Stampede Grandstand tickets but will only do transaction through Western Union.

Have asked to meet in person (my preference) but only wants to do it via money transfter - scam?

I have not used Western Union before and based on their website there are no guarantees if I never receive the tickets...

From the Stampede Website:

A limited number of tickets will go on sale at 11 a.m. each day from July 6 - 15 for that day’s performance. These tickets can only be purchased in person at the Grandstand and BMO Centre Ticket Offices.

They are only $25 each, but it sucks you have to go down to the grounds to buy them. Have to pay admission plus stand in line...

I used to love the Stampede. Absolutely love. Now I'm very much so over it.

Over crowded and fucking idiots who can't hold their liquor.

2 years ago I got clocked by some dumb cunt wearing a massive ring. I didn't even say a word to her, nor did I even have a clue who she was. I was just waiting for a cab.

Last time I participated in Stampede activities. Tempted to actually just take a week long vacation and go spend it out in Sicamous.

If you guys are genuinely interested in rodeo, check out smaller towns. Seats are way cheaper and so much closer.

I feel like I should go and do Stampede shit this year just because it's the 100th but I really don't see it being all that different than any other year. Maybe the Stampede Parade will be different, who knows. Nashville North and a couple games/gambling are the only reasons I go and even that is starting to not really grab my attention. I must be getting old and boring. Probably cheap too.

Not that it'll be much help since you can't buy tickets anymore (other than scalpers), but the best seats in the house IMO is the second tier, front rows, middle.

If you sit too far on the side, you can't see anything because all the performances are on the middle stage. If you sit on the bottom/first tier, you're not covered by the roof so if it rains, you're SOL. If you sit too deep on the second tier, you're covered by the roof but it also obscures you from seeing the fireworks at the end.

Sucks to have learned all that from first-hand experience

I agree with all that say Stampede sucks.

The grounds are disgusting, the people are disgusting, the food is disgusting, and unless you enjoy acting like a teenager who just discovered alcohol, there is really nothing worth going for.

I do go down every year just to see if something can surprise me (last year the ice skating show did it), but usually its 2 hours and I am gone.

I will be heading down to Scottsdale for 5 days to get away from the gong show the city turns into.

So who came into town today and caused a traffic disruption at McKnight and Aviation Blvd/12 St NE (around 230pm)? I got stuck at the lights going EB McKnight while motorcycle cops played traffic cop-they were keeping SB traffic from the west hangers moving at the expense of all other lanes. A few of us lucky ones got waved through and as I went through the lights there was a line of black SUVs just approaching the intersection. :dunno:

I've got a few company parties I'll be going to, but trying to avoid the clubs as much as possible; the bars in this city are filled with d-bags enough during the rest of the year, stampede is 10000x worse :banghead:

Wasn't impressed with the Food Trucks either. I hope they're not charging $9.00 for the same stuff in downtown because no way will anyone be even half full from that.

For a Centennial, they really need to step it up.

On a sidenote, saw a ton of old asian people sitting in the +15s on 6th Ave to watch the parade. I assume this happens every year but this is the first I've seen it. Pretty funny.

I watched the parade on television. CBC's coverage was terrible. Managed to see the tanks showing off in the background a couple of times, but they missed showing many of the floats that I didn't find out about until I talked to others who actually watched it in person (some of these floats even won awards).

Ron Maclean and Jann Arden had many awkward silences and were often annoying when they did speak. I don't care that Jann Arden rode a flatulent horse once. I don't want to see random spectators interviewed. I would rather just see the parade.

Guess I'm going next year....

Don't know if anyone else made it down to the coke stage tonight, but Our Lady Peace absolutely killed it tonight! I was pretty impressed with the length of the show (about an hour and 15 mins) and the quality of the songs, especially since they played a lot of their classics (Superman's Dead, Starseed, In Repair) with a few new songs mixed in.

For anyone planning to go down to Wildhorse, expect to wait in line. We waited 1.5 hrs and this was us getting there at 3, it probably didnt help that it was the opening day.

But I would suggest to avoid that tent all together. The 10 or so of us that were there, came out of the tent more sober then we had gone in. And each one of us constantly had a drink in our hands. Totally watered down garbage.

here's a pro-tip, tune your radio to q107, they're simulcasting the music from the grandstand live.

It was really great to see, and I might try to go up to nose hill or somewhere else with a high vantage point and check out the fireworks show from a broader angle. The multiple launch locations is a great idea.

Yea its very cool, could see them last night at Elliston park. We went to scotchmans hill tonight, the fireworks were awesome at the grounds, we could also see them from Heritage park and COP a bit.

Imagine being on a flight into or out of the city.

You'd get one hell of a view.

Reading the paper this morning, it sounds like longer-than-usual line ups for everything. Not surprised with the weather the way it is as well as the extra hype for this years event.
Thinking of heading down midweek for an evening visit. Hopefully a little less crowded than yesterday or today.

I go to the Sunday morning breakfast every year around the same time, within 7:15-7:30 (latest), and this year the 100th year hype definitely made the line 3x longer. Usually I'm already up by the Lammle's tent. This time, I was all the way back at the Saddledome.

Line went quick though. Was almost debating to just get my stamp and bounce.

Bridgeland community breakfast was awesome this morning. Zero line at 9am, delicious starbucks coffee (can't believe I typed that), huge helping of pancakes and sausage patties, and live country music to cap it all off.

Just in case anyone else is looking for rodeo/chuckwagon tickets and doesn't want to support the scalpers; you can call the stampede ticket sales office directly and there's a chance they may have reserved tickets that weren't picked up, etc.

I scored great seats for this afternoon and I called about 10 minutes ago. 403-269-9822

^^ Good tip!
Another: I just downloaded the Stampede app for the iphone....very cool actually!!!

You can filter what day/time you'll be there, and it lists everything that is happening. You can click on each item for a short description and where it is, and if you want to catch it, just click to add it to your own personal "Planner". You can even add an alarm to it.
In the past, we've wandered around the grounds and missed out on a few things we wanted to see. Handy little app.

If you dont want to wait in line, get there after lunch and plan on spending the whole day.

Cowboys is the best party of those listed. I like Nashville North too, if you're into loud ass country music and two stepping.

Wildhorse is shit, skip it. $25 cover, tiny dance floor, outhouses, etc...

Couldn't believe the number of grown men going through all the equipment. :banghead: Took us 1 hour to get my little boy in the Leapord Tank because there was a line of grown men pretending to be tank commanders and countless adult asians taking pictures giving the peace sign in every position possible on it.
