Has anyone ever bought wheels off of this website? They have really good prices but I don't want to get raped on the shipping charges or duty or whatever.

Anyone buy rims from these guys, or just from the states from that matter?

speedtech had a sale on almost all the ADR wheels that were featured on there... it ended in febuary tho, but the prices were definatly better:thumbsup:

If they ship UPS you will get raped so hard you won't sit for a week. If they ship air with fedex, the duty/broker fees are included I think - best to check with them.

Tire Rack told me it's not worth it to ship tires over the border so I'd imagine wheels are pretty harsh too. But just call them and ask how much tax/duty/shipping would be.

Yeah there are plenty of Canadian vendors that have good prices, and you won't have to deal with duty/brokerage fees.

Aside from in style, I think all of the sponsors listed have some wheel deals. If you deal local, you have the advantage of seeing what you buy before you commit the cash. Trust me, as great as pictures are, they never give you a good enough impression of what the wheel actually looks like. Casting lines, burrs, crappy paint, etc is easily missed in the pictures you view online.

If you can't find anything there, these are the 2 biggest online retailers of wheels/tires in Canada:
www.1010tires.com
www.tiretrends.com

sweet thanks guys. they have wheels for 699 USD for tires and wheels so it's pretty cheap but i'd imagine that shipping would be expensive.

Depending on the savings, I would suggest picking up wheels either locally or within the country. After GST/Shipping/bokerage/duties etc.etc. you might end up paying more! and what if a rim comes scratched? You have to send it back and it just becomes a hassle.

I like to buy locally as well, but I just bought a set of wheels on e-bay for $305 USD.

18" ADR Fuel. That is $76US dollars per wheel. Even with a scratch, you can't get wheels that cheap in Calgary. Shipping was a little expensive, but I still come out WAY ahead of buying them in Canada.

i ship tires and wheels in from the states no problem. if times the US price X 1.37 it will be a pretty rough idea of what it is going to cost you with duty and tax. then all you have to do is get wheelmax to quote you shipping, they'll do it for you no probs

And this post is all you could come up with?

Anyways, I would probably try to deal locally as well. Over the years i've noticed that no matter how cheap something is in the states, its usually too good to be true. Thats unless you find good sellers that are "hungry for business" and are willing to accomodate your needs, like actually ship with USPS if you need them to.

I called wheelmax one day... Add an extra $100 US to that price for your shipping and thats it. I have heard great things about their shipping and whatnot, and considered buying from them myself.

Yeah it's just the customs I"m worried about, and plus after reading all these threads about UPS and the brokerage fees I'm a little leary

alright, here is the deal.

I won this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2457985779&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:CA:6

$305/4 = $76.25 per wheel

shipping was $154 USD ( I got the insurance).

So at a really conservative exchange rate of $1.35, I paid $620 CDN for all 4 wheels.

Now, FedEx dropped them off today and I didn't need to pay anything. But I will wait a few weeks before I sigh in relief. I know there won't be a bill for a brokerage fee as I called and asked about it. They said if the value is under $200USD per package (there are 4), there is no fee. I just have to pay duty and taxes (if they apply).

Worst case is that with GST and DUTY (6%), I will pay $700 CDN for these wheels. That is $175 per wheel. Remember, these are 18" wheels.

As much as I like buying local, I don't think the local places could buy these from their suppliers for the price I got them for.

benyl

From Oakland California.

It is quick too. He sent them last Thursday.

They are 18 lbs.

The box is 18.5x18.5x8

Just put those numbers into any shipping website and you will get the real numbers. He charged me double what it should be.

oh that's good then because I think WheelMax is in Las Vegas.

was it air or ground?

benyl

ground.

I won't use these for another 6-8 weeks anyway...

I got these links from UPS for customs fees:

From US to Canada:
http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html

From Canada to the US:
http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/select/receiving/customs/fees.html

I'm going to get a tire from Tire Rack in the near future and I've figured I'll save about $100 getting it from the states.

UPS kicks your ass with the brokerage fees. It's not the shipping thats expensive.

benyl
02-13-2004, 11:41 AM
Go FedEX (if under $200 USD) or USPS... the only ways to do it.

91_Integz
02-13-2004, 01:56 PM
I phoned wheelmax and they said shipping would be about $150USD. I forgot to ask what company they use though :banghead:

If you do buy from a US distributor get them delieved if possible to someone in the states and go pick them up in your trunk or have them mounted down there. You'll save all kinds of cash.

91_Integz

I don't know anyone in the states though. I don't think I'll have to pay that much extra...the $150 USD shipping and what, maybe another 100 brokerage?

This is an old thread but I'll revive it instead of start a new one.

I've talked to sales, they are quoting me $200 USD for shipping, plus approximately 7% at customs, they use UPS...

So example

$750 rim and tire package
divided by 0.93 customs
=
$806.45
+ $200 shipping
=
1006.45
divided by 0.77 Xchange
=
$1307.01

Shitty, that's saving a couple hundred but with twice the risk...
Since the start of this Thread, has anyone else bought from these guys? any horror stories?

DONT SHIP VIA UPS .. if that is the only option they will charge you 10% brokerage fee ON TOP of everything.

People say this for a reason, FedEx or USPS only. USPS charges like a 4dollar handling fee or something ...

I bought a camera (Nikon 4500 Coolpix) used from a guy in the states.. I paid $380 US including shipping (at the time it came to ~$495 CDN) ...

I ended up paying about $600 because UPS are crooks.. 7% tax on the camera : $35 bux... where did that other 70 dollars come from?? thats right UPS profited.

I had to pay $100bux CDN after it landed on my door to UPS.

So, expect to pay 100dollars PLUS whatever the shipping cost is. and I haven't checked with customs but I think american made car parts (wheels inclusive?) are 7% only.

Another thing to consider because of environmental reasons is importing the rubber ... I dont know if its valid so correct me if its not but we pay a recycling fee for tires here and I dont know if that would have any implications importing goods from the states for a personal purchase ...
