Needed something 4cyl and not 4000 pounds and with a manual transmission. The Aristo costs me about 20 bucks a day to drive to work. :)

Got this from Graham Auctions today. Took it home tonight, washed it, and started screwing with it right away.

Roomates Skyline and 1.7EL, and my Aristo in the background.

Steering wheel leather is torn, rest of the interior is nice.

First thing I did when I got it home was crank the Koni adjustables to full stiffness, rip out the stock airbox and stick a filter on it, and fix a boost leak.

Nice just having random filters and couplers from builds past. :D

Probably just gonna crank the boost up to 16-17ish psi, lower it, get better pads, etc. Basic shit to make it more fun to drive.

looks to be in very good shape for its age. I've allways liked those cars and there is a ton of potential in that engine.

I saw that car and was tempted. That is a good price for that car-most start at $4000.
And one of the first mods for the 2.3 (besides getting rid of the silly air cleaner) is a manual boost controller.

Sentry, there is a guy on performance-shop.com that is a SVO mustang guru, if you are going to plan on modding yours talk to him.

He is super friendly and will be able to point you in the right direction (even though sounds like you are already on the way). There are a few guys running 12's & 11's and they don't have a lot of $$ in their cars.

Here is one of the stickies in the Turbo 2.3 area.

Guys, I know a thing or two about turbo vehicles. ;)

Jacked the boost controller off the Aristo so I can play with the SVO. SVO likely won't see much as far as power mods, just the filter, boost up, gut the cat, probably dyno tune, maybe intercooler, maybe exhaust. I'd be tickled to see 200whp out of it.

I'm going to attempt the unthinkable and try to make a Mustang handle. THIS is where I'm going to need advice. So if you know anyone that road races or seriously autocrosses their Fox body Mustangs, let me know.

Always loved these cars. Happy to see you can still get a decent example for a reasonable price.

Some guy on Hooniverse (http://forum.hooniverse.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23) is swapping an IRS rear end out of a newer Cobra into his but you probably don't have to go that far.

I'd also back off those Koni adjustables from full stiff - they're really not designed to run at the extreme and you'll wear them out faster if you run them right at the limit. The car also won't handle terribly well if they're overdamped for the spring rate you're holding.

From Koni's FAQ:

Q: What is the best adjustment setting for my shocks?
A: There is no single best adjustment setting for your KONIs because every driver has different preferences for comfort, performance, performance modifications and roads to drive on. For most vehicles, we suggest that new KONIs be installed in the full soft position. (the standard setting right out of the box) to take advantage of the balance of ride comfort and handling designed by the KONI ride development engineers. If the car has performance upgrades (springs, wheel/tire packages, etc.) or the driver wants the car a bit more aggressive, most people find the optimum setting in the 1/2 to one full turn from the full soft range. Over the extended life of the damper or if the driver wants a specific firm handling characteristic, the dampers can be adjusted up higher. Very rarely will KONI ever need to be adjusted to the full firm setting.

I've always had a rock-hard hate on for top mounts, and this one is especially bad being located right over the turbo and exhaust manifold...

After driving it this afternoon I've decided I'm going to lose the interheater ASAP and do a front mount as cheaply as possible.

I have a SAAB intercooler you can have for free if you pick it up. No damage.
It's the next of my pay-it-forward that I owe to the Beyond community-this one just seems a natural.

If you want it you have 48 hours to say ya or nay elsewhere first come first server. You also have to pay-it-forward sometime down the road.

Got the freebie more or less mounted. Bit of a slant since one outlet has to go down into the passenger fender and one has to come up above the lower rad support. Can't see that part of the bumper ever, anyway.

Had a little fun with the top mount before I rip it out. It was actually almost fast when I did this!

http://i.imgur.com/E7LOn.jpg

Tomorrow I'll get a slim fan for the rad and plumb the intercooler.

Also did my second fill up today. 10.5ish L/100km. Almost as good as my AE86 did.

I'm torn on deciding how much I want to screw with it.

I've done a bunch of tune up shit and now it's running tip top, mostly stock ish. It's a blast as is, but slow as shit lol. The boosty noises just fool you into thinking it's fast.

I want to make it faster, but I also want to start buying parts for the single conversion on the Aristo's 2JZ. It's OK to have two project cars, they just can't both be projects at the same time. :)

Grabbed a Walbro pump this morning and threw it in. Pretty much direct fit, re used nearly everything from the factory external pump.

http://i.imgur.com/ewf6F.jpg

Outlet fitting is the same so I re used it, inlet is different so I used one of the supplied barb fittings and a chunk of 5/16" hose. Slimmer than the stocker so I used the supplied beer koozie and slipped that over it.

http://i.imgur.com/iJEQI.jpg

Snipped the spade terminals off the stock harness and put on the supplied ring connectors. Siliconed over them so they won't be open to the elements. Into the stock hanger and ready to go.

http://i.imgur.com/qDmOt.jpg

I can't believe how easy that was.

Stealthy as usual. Only reason the one on the Aristo is so showy is because someone else did it. :D

Also, with the pump I got it replaced on a technicality. Mopac wasn't going to warranty it, but I looked up the part number and it was actually a 155lph pump and not a 190lph pump. So after humming and haw'ing for 40 minutes and looking up part numbers and calling a bunch of people, they finally agreed they screwed up and let me upgrade to the 255lph pump by paying the difference, which was like 15 bucks. All their "190" lph pumps are actually 155 lph if you look up the part number.

Check whether you have the E3 or the E6 manifold.
Good site to check-basically if your exhaust manifold has the round lumps you have the E3.
http://www.fordturbo.com/option4.html
These E3s are prone to cracking and are a bottleneck.
I say this because there is a Turbocoupe in Pick n Pull with the E6 manifold still intact. Cheap upgrade!

Here's the DMR I got. Purposely got a cheapie because I hate bling ass headunits in old cars, they look so out of place. Has bluetooth streaming capability, which is why I'm changing decks. I want to be able to pair my phone and play music off it.

Did front struts and ball joint boots today.

Old boots were still "good", but I'm replacing them with poly boots while I'm in there.

Buttons still showing. Joints felt great when I had it apart. Hopefully they last forever cause there aren't any left for me to buy.

You must be having a blast ripping around in this SVO. Refreshing the shocks, brakes & bushings would make a huge difference in a car of this vintage I'd bet! :D
