Very interesting read, I always thought the 2000 Cobra R was one bad ass whip.

Great post!

I was 19 working for a Ford dealer when I had a chance to drive a SVT Contor and one of the first Lightnings in canada. They both impressed me and a lightning is still on my want list, I havn't seen a Contour SVT for years now.

I remember pulling on to Deerfoot going north from Memorial one time at about 2-3 in the morning.

I saw these headlights behind me that just wouldnt let up so I drop shifted and started to pull coming down the ramp and was giving it everything it got through the next 2 gears.

When we finally pulled out on to Deerfoot and the guy passed me he was flying and it was a SVT Lightning, mad respect for that thing.

There were some failed projects as well. 1997/8 Thunderbird SVT was one of them.

TMS: What vehicle would you have liked to have given the SVT treatment?

John Coletti: This is a hard question to answer since we pretty much always got to do the vehicles we wanted to do. The only disappointment I had during my tenure at SVT was that we couldn't do the supercharged 1998 Thunderbird as an SVT model. But given the fact that the Thunderbird carline was cancelled by the company, it was understandable.

My buddy just bought a 2003 Cobra (of which I am very, very jealous! )

2000 Cobra R is getting lots of props, and I agree it's an amazing car. It was interesting to see what Ford could do all motor (385 hp/same tq- apparantly made those rated numbers at the wheels - very impressive for 12 years ago) Sort of like Ford's version of the Viper with no a/c, cruise, radio etc, side exit exhaust, big wing...love the styling on these bad boys!! :D

I'll admit I'm an Svt fanatic......I've had an 07 gt500, 1998 Atlantic Blue Svt ragtop, 2000 lightning, 2003 lightning, and an 04 Svt red ragtop.......

And I find myself continually kijiji and eBay searching for Svt every day.....thinking another lightning. Or a 2003 Harley super crew.....or a raptor.....93 cobra is on the hit list too...eventually.....too many great products to choose from....

Trade your truck for a Raptor I say :D Then rent your neighbors half of the driveway because its so damn wide.

I love the Focus SVT.
It handles and stops like a go-cart, has more than enough power for it's size, and the 6-speed getrag makes it feel so solid.
I'm on my second one, but sadly it's up for sale, since I need an SUV... maybe a Lightning would be a good compromise!

^:werd:

I've only ridden in 1 Cobra an that was Moe man's.. Wow does that thing pull hard for being stock. The sc whine pretty much drowns out his exhaust.

If i were to pick another car as a project car, The terminator would definitely be it.
