Alberta’s received a high octane boost with the introduction of Ultra 94 at select Petro-Canada stations in Calgary and Edmonton. The super premium fuel helps ensure vehicles get maximum horsepower, acceleration and performance, even under Alberta’s tough driving conditions.

It has very little to do with your cars performance, it is simply a marketing method to add more ethanol to the gas blend.

It's kind of strange but I had been filling the mustang with Shell 91 since new and averaged 15 L/100km for a year and for convienience reasons filled up twice in a row with Esso 91 and my mileage actually improved and got a steady 14 L/100km. One tank of Shell 91 later and I'm back at 15 L/100kms.

Can anyone confirm whether Ultra 94 has higher levels of ethanol like Husky? On my WRX it seems to give me better throttle response. Maybe it is just a placebo.

Ultra 94 contains ethanol. Due to the fact that various fuel grades are blended at the point of sale, most grades of Petro-Canada fuel may now contain up to 10% ethanol. This represents a change from the previous state, where premium fuel was ethanol-free at Petro-Canada.

i know what you mean...filled up at Esso for my SUV and teh Car, and noticed better mileage than on Shell 91.

i've been using Esso now for the past few months, no probs.

Also noticed some of the shells particularly the one in riverbend has jacked the premium price up by between 16-20 cents sometimes. On average 16 cents more/L than regular. Most places are 14cents/l more.

When i was younger, it used to be between 10-12 cents.

When i was younger, it used to be between 10-12 cents. What the hell? I haven't been paying attention for years now, I just assumed premium was always 10 cents more than regular. Livin' a lie.

True story dude. I've been using premium for the past 7 years now, never noticed till recently when i was doingthe math in my head. Took at look at the riverbend shell was 18cents/L more than regular.

Again it flucuates there but on average 16cents/L more than regular. So make sure you take a good look.

You wish; shell > *

I get better mileage with it (91 octane), on non-automotive stuff (e.g., lawn tractor, pressure washer, etc..) I use it and leave the tanks filled with it over the winter and have had 0 problems come the summer, and my cars that are carb'd seem to idle smoother with it than any other gas.

Brutal.

considering oil is hovering around the 87$/barrel mark I dont get why its $1.13/L. I know that the actual price of oil has only a little amount to do with the price at the pumps. Still it doesnt seem fair.

If you want/need to drive, you have to pay.

Oil price you see today only affect gas price 3 months from now.

Spot gas price is affected by supply and perceived demand.

Except for when oil prices go up, then they hike the prices the same day.

Your a mechanic ......i know you from j-speed days....no knock, no ping engine runs great and mpg way up ...whats the problem ? Its a Ls1 motor so I'm sure it would give me feedback if the gas sucked, like it gave me on the Centrex gas. Now give me some actual scientific data that you yourself did in your little science lab to back up your numbers and i'll buy any gas you recommend. It's even been brought up Shells gas has gone to shit.....so go dip your little water stick in every tank for every station and brand and get back too me ok Bill Nye Science guy ?

All i was saying was the price is decent,my aluminum higher compression LS1 isn't making bad noises and they have brand new tanks and pumps. You get water in your own gas tank with sudden temperature changes, so whats the paranoia about water ? Bad mouth Indian Reservation gas and i'm right there with you , i'm just sayin' what i've been getting has been working.

Whew what the hell....must be my time of the month...all this over gas :nut:

Shit I was paying 1.60 for premium in '08. Love that with only 5% HST.

Better mileage, seemingly improved performance be damned. Audi will flat out tell you to avoid ethanol blended fuel. In the long term it’s bad for your engine, causes pre-mature wear on seals. Also, ethanol has the bad habit of attracting and absorbing moisture which reduces its shelf life. If you do use ethanol fuel you need to burn it up within 3 weeks to reduce the potential for damage caused by the additives separating.
