I was mowing my grass tonight and i noticed a lot of small white bugs would jump up off the grass everytime the mower or i moved.

Does anyone know what these are and will they hurt my lawn and/or dog?

Has anybody bought the praying mantis kits that are sold at Home Depot to take care of this?

I was thinking of buying one of these eggs and letting them set up shop in the back yard. It would be cool to have packs of them patrolling the yard for any intruders.

Are they harmful at all? Or Praying Mantis all benefit?

They are all benefit unless you are an aphid or mosquito, in which case you might get your head chomped off.

you can't do anything about aphids, they are everywhere and that silly praying mantis kit isn't going to do anything.

But the aphids aren't anything to worry about, the worst they will do is make your grass sticky if you have a whole outbreak happening but it's not a big deal. Aphids suck the sap (sugar water) out of plants, and it comes out their "asshole" and makes everything sticky. This is the source of the residue that you might notice on stuff in your garden, or your lawn furniture or car or whatever if placed near or under a tree.

It's that time of year - could be grasshopper larval stage - small like half a grain of salt and hops... Aphids are very distinct and don't really jump...
