1990 Eagle Talon TSI, 196,000kms....what should I look out for? I know do an inspection but, should there be any troublesome areas I should look out for? I heard about the "crankwalk" associated with these cars..thanks!

I have been considering getting a DSM myself, but I do not own one so someone please correct me if I am wrong about anything.

Crankwalk is extremely rare on the 1g's (it is already somewhat rare on 2g's) so you probably don't have to worry about it.
I heard DSM's start becoming unreliable after heavy modifications, so if there is a lot done to the car you might want to reconsider getting it.
Troublesome areas....not really much different than other turbo cars. Oil changes should be done at least once every 5000 miles (but 3000 miles is what is recommended). Make sure the seller knows what turbo timing is. The occasional maintenance stuff (timing belts etc) is very important too because the engine is put under more stress in a turbo than a n/a vehicle.

Once again, someone correct me if I have any facts wrong. Hope that helps

crankwalking really only happens on 2g 7bolt blocks...
i have only heard of one instance of a 6bolt walking.. and it was a 63/64.. i think there was a recall on the tc.. or was that on the 6g72 stealths???

It does not have a Turbo Timer, there is two rust spots bubbling up, and a girl owned it before so I dont know what the maintenance intervals were.

No crankwalk...90's are a rare dsm in the fact that a lot of the parts used for 91-94 really dont work, ie Throttle Body, and a few other things...cruise control and what have you...make sure the timing belt AND the balance shaft belt were done the tensioners arent too big a deal, but i would have done them while i was in there...

1G DSM arent as bad as most ppl make them out to be, there is aWEALTH of knowledge on them all over the net and here in Calgary as well man...

If you have specific questions...PM me...

Find out when the timing belt was last changed. Pull the intake tube off and check the turbo for shaft play. Take a look at the condition of the fluids, oil, antifreeze, etc. Fluids are the easiest way to tell if a car has been loved or neglected. The car is 15 years old so you can't expect new car reliability.

Crankwalk is a non-issue. It supposedly happend on some 1995 - 1997 2G DSM's which was due to improperly machined crankshafts from the factory. It's more of a myth as anytime a 2G guy loses his engine, he blames it on crankwalk even though he had a big FP Green turbo and 22 psi boost on stock internals.

I would be most concerned with the rust. Rust is like cancer to cars, once it starts, it spreads, and you can't stop it. If you can live with it great.:)
