At the shell on 32nd ave and 68th street in the NE. They're selling v power for the price of bronze gas.
sign says "shell bronze temporarily unavailable. enjoy a free upgrade to shell v-power gasoline on us. same price as shell bronze gasoline."
-dunno if this belongs in the right section.

Yezzir! I've been filling up here for a long time, it's nice to get those freebies once in a while. But it sucks when it's the other way around...no V-Powaaa!!

I guess we have to enjoy it while it lasts! :burnout:

I dont get it, why are people flocking to higher octane gas if your vehicle doesent specify it? :dunno:

(you end up losing performance if your vehicle is meant to run on 87 and you put in 91)

^ I'm assuming their vehicles actually do specify 91, and that they're flocking to a station that is selling 91 for the price of 87. That's the way I see it, anyway.

That's one thing I don't understand myself either, it could be the "marketing" that Shell is putting out on TV, and boy those presenters look nerdish, kinda funny though. :D

But all I know is that my cars require 91 and I wouldn't put anything less.

the shell on 52nd Street and Rundlehorn NE was selling premium for the price of regular yesterday as well so if you're in the area it's worth a try to check it out

I get noticeably better mileage using premium gas in my car. If i'm not paying extra for it its a no brainer.

^ is your car stock? if so what does the manual specify for octane?

Does performance actually worsen if you put a higher-than-recommended octane fuel, or did you just pull that out of your ass? I think v-power has some extra cleaning additives, so I don't think it can hurt... If it really did, there would be a disclaimer after every one of their commercials.

How old is you engine? Chances are you've got bad carbon deposits, you should not notice better mileage with premium on a car tuned for regular.

I thought this had been thoroughly mentioned in other threads :dunno:

Adding a higher octane to your engine (if the OEM specs dont call for it and you havent added a turbo or adjusted compression otherwise) wont necessarly hurt the engine in the short term, but you will lose both money and performance.

Futhermore (as per the above mentioned thread) in Calgary, due to our altitude, vehicles that DO call for 91 from the factory can get away with running 89 regularly.

Personally, I'd take more performance and spend less:thumbsup:

From POPULAR MECHANICS' Mike Allen's Q&A

Q:
I live in Arizona and use 87-octane regular. In Utah, Idaho and Nevada, stations were selling 85-octane as regular gas. This forced me to pay more for midgrade 87-octane. Is this the latest petroleum-industry scam to get more of our money? Will my car run okay on this bogus 85-octane regular?

A:
Octane is the ability of a fuel to resist knock, and high-compression engines tend to knock more. The obverse of that is that lower-compression engines can run on lower-octane gas. Air is thinner the higher above sea level you go. Less air going into the cylinders means less pressure at top dead center when things go bang. It's a lot like lowering the compression ratio in the engine, reducing the need for high octane. Cars will run just fine on lower-octane fuel when they're well above sea level--and all of those states are. Hopefully, by the time you get back down to denser air, you've burned off most of the low-octane stuff, and can refill the tank with higher-grade fuel.
