-compound turbos making 80psi boost

This must be a typo, 8psi?

Haha, I don't think he meant that as a typo.. He put in brackets:

(that ive been brave enough to push it to. they can make even MORE!)

my old Cummins with stock turbo made 40psi, so definitely not a typo as said. Looks like a fun ride

It has some serious time invested... and its likely one of the most rad rat rots I have ever seen... My guess is $30000

That's a friend's neighbors' car. I had no idea he wanted to sell it so I'll have to go see him again.

Does anyone have a video of a Turbo Diesel pushing heavy PSI similar to this build?

I'm curious now, I wanna see a video of what a turbo sounds like at 80psi and the speedo/boost gauge.

Dyno video would be best, that's some wild shit. Didn't know it was possible for a turbo to put out that kinda pressure.

My ex father inlaw has a 5.9 Ram pushing 1000ftlbs with 80psi I think? He has a twin turbo setup, Its a crazy truck and I can only imagine what it would be like in a tiny car:nut: .

My buddy has a dodge with a monster turbo setup, 600whp and 1400ft-lbs at 55psi > he actually uses it to do "tractor pull" style events... some nice full pulls.

Modelexis, look up tractor pulls if you want to see / hear some high psi / quad motor / jet engine setups... them rednecks done got smrat

Such a Beast!

looks like a death trap though hahaha. But I guess all rat rods do.

I agree, that thing can't be safe. Im suprised its even street legal, awesome rig none the less.

12 valve cummins and rat rod = WIN

fyi diesels can run high boost because they don't have to worry about ignition timing like in a gasoline engine.

Can any turbocharger produce that high amount of psi?

What are the effects of high psi on a turbocharger.

I always thought that the higher the boost level, the faster the turbine wheel is spinning and the more heat is being produced.

Is that correct, or what is the right way to think about the effects of high psi?

From what i read, he has a compound turbo setup, meaning he has two. Typically diesels run their turbos around the 38 psi range, so if hes running two, its not too far fetched. Depending on how they are built, its not uncommon to see tractor pull setups with compound setups of four or more turbos pushing in excess of 140 psiG manifold presssures.

That all being said, thats a cool "car"

It depends on the turbo. I'm pretty sure there are single turbo sled pullers with over 100psi.

It might be important to note that for diesels, in most cases "twin turbos" means compounds, as said above. You have a little one to spool quickly, and a bigger one to go the rest of the way. It's pretty rare to have two turbos the same size on a diesel. I think the only time I have seen actual twins is on triple turbo setups, where you have two smaller twins feeding a big single.

Edit: I hope I didn't lose anyone with technical terms like "little one" and "big one". I've been up for 27 hours and my brain is a piece of shit.

saw this last night, there is so many small details on this thing. the more you look at it the more you appreciate the time and thought put into it.

turbos can make all kinds of crazy boost.. like my semi only pulls at 30psi and thats more then enought to pull total weight of 140,000 pounds in mountains.. reason i say that is because if i was to hook my turbo up into your intake tube while running same turbine rpm as my 30 psi im sure in your car engine it would be well over 100 psi, it all depends on size of engine your throwing the boost into..

80psi isn't hard. Usually in "Pro mod" class in Tractor pulling, their using (our 3/4-1ton) cummins engines, only being heavily modded.

Its not hard to see them running 300psi.

Too bad that ads down, I would have liked to see it.

Some oil field guy called the owner last week and told him he was coming to get it, for $30k. I'm not sure if it's sold now, but I guess it would be.

$30K kind of defeats the purpose of a rat rod, but it was a pretty awesome car.
