I don't know anything about this, but it leaks when it rains. I've got onto the roof and the vent looks fine, cap is on and caulking in good condition. But it shouldn't be the caulking cause the water is coming from inside the tube. It basically filled up the cap so I took it off and a lot of water poured out. My terminology is probably wrong but hopefully the pictures speak for themselves. Looks like it's been happening for a while the piping is all rusted out but we just noticed the other day. Sideways rain perhaps? Any suggestions or recommendations?

dude, mine drips like a bitch in a windy rain thunderstorm.

Its the most annoying thing ever when you are trying to sleep, and you hear a tongggg... then 3 secs later tooonngggg as the water is dripping from the vent all the way down.

I beleive you can get a better cap on it to prevent the rain from blowing in.

EDIT - it looks like you can see the sky there, is that true? Do you have a Rain Cap on it at all?

HAd to go back and read what you wrote that you took the bottom cap off. Otherwise, I was going to say, that doesn't look right, if that's open to the utility room, fumes would definitely find their way into the house.

Condensation? Is another guess.

That's WAYYY to much daylight! It looks like his cap blew right off.

I would say condensation. When it rains in calgary, it is generally cold. Cold air, hot steam turns to condensate.

Yeah I thought that was unusual to see that much light but the rain cap was on, intact and good condition. I took it off to inspect and didn't see any water stains that tell me water was leaking from there. I just took the bottom cap off to clean out the water and take some pics, but it's back on now. Would it be condensation when the furnace hasn't kicked on for the last few weeks? Is there still enough heat from the house to keep the pipes that hot? Didn't think it was condensation cause when it was leaking I can hear loud dripping on metal from the 2nd floor through the walls.

Then its probably condensation from the attic. Attics get insanely hot, even on warm days. Do you have a static attic vent, or moving one? Also, do you have A/C?

You hot water tank is connected to the same vent. You use that everyday.

It's just a static vent and no A/C

Good stuff. It's making more sense now and when I look at the pics it's so obvious now. I learned something new today

Now I will need to find a way to drain the water now if it happens again.
