There's so many online job sites now (workopolis, jobhunt, etc) and the ones I've tried have been pretty disappointing, so where do you go to find proffesional job postings? The university (of alberta) job board was good as it actually had a lot of positions, and variety to them, but it seems like every other one is full of spam postings, those recruitment agency type places, or just non professional positions like cooks or bank tellers.

i did all my job hunting online, but i only apply to the companies directly instead of those recruitment agencies.

wowjobs.ca is what I always used for professional jobs.

indeed.ca

If nothing else it saves a ton of time, but I found the industry depth and coverage to be outstanding. Basically an aggregator it takes postings from all the other major job sites.

Wow, just looked at indeed and right away found 4 jobs that match my criteria (versus zero anywhere else)

I just leave my resume up on Monster and LinkedIn. Usually the jobs just constantly trickle in so when I'm close to renewal time I can do a few interviews and make a decision.

That said, the majority of the jobs I've taken have come from friends/family.

This. Update your resume to throw it back to the top again. I get about an offer a month without applying anywhere.

I've used Workopolis and Indeed. I find that some recruitment agency's / head hunters are quite useful as they can get you pass the filtering/screening process because of their recommendation.

I used beyond.

before that I just went to places I wanted to work and they gave me jobs.

Like it says above though, find out where is hiring and go in if you really want the job (if they allow that) as most of my jobs are trades based so impression goes WAY further then a bunch of lines on a sheet of paper. :P

Are you a fresh grad i assume?

I would keep my eyes open daily on joblink. My current job was from there, but the posting was only up for 3 days, so I was super lucky I was paying attention when it showed up!

Yep hah. I'm employed at a pretty decent gig right now, but I'm trying to break into high finance (equity research, asset mgmt, private equity type stuff) so I need to apply for pretty much any one that shows up until I can get in lol. Just need to know where to look!
