MGCM, any word on how they're doing it for the kart's power? Were you able to get it at 100% power or not yet?
Looks like the best deal is the 3 race deal for $49, simply because not many people want to invest $160 for 10 races just to save $3.33 lol. Nice try Speeders.
22.671
level 3 sucks though, too slow

after 12 races u have full unlock but i seem to recall hearing there is also another pro setting beyond that. Power setting is done by remote control, very cool actually.

So basically, after ~$200+ incl. membership, you'll get full unlock. And there might be a pro setting after that. Interesting, and good to know.
Thanks!
10 races you can buy for $160 i asked, anyway plan to move to level 4 very soon to see if its any good

Tried it out tonight. Same as Pole Position in the states IIRC. If you have your own DOT helmet w/ visor, bring it, those helmet liners are not very fun to wear. Regardless I'm probably going to end up spending too much money there on my free time.
cmon guys post your best lap time from today!!!
ditto on the helmet liners, i had my helmet the car but its open face..........i shall be investing in a new helmet asap

if your sliding u need to brake a bit more before the corner and in a straight line as best u can, its hard but it pays off

Can't wait to get down there and go for some spins. I loved the one they had inside West Edmonton Mall years back. You really had to find a seat that fit you. If it was too big you'd get thrown all over the place lol.
My question to those that went yesterday; is it all hardcore drivers? I'd like to get my youngest son to try it out. No driving experience and no license. I'm wondering if they will have special races for beginners.
He can't be any slower than buh_buh.

Yeah I know what the specs are. I've driven these types of Karts. I just wanted to know what the "feel" was in most races. My son is 17. If every race was fairly skilled guys, drifting on every corner, he'd find that intimidating. But if there were the odd race with a few "beginners" he might find that easier to get started.
I want him to get that "feel" of driving a motor vehicle before I plop him behind the steering wheel of a 5,000 lb car and put him on Calgary streets.
Also, what was the wait like for a race? Was it packed?
Putting a kid in a kart as some sort of precursor to driving a real car doesn't seem very intuitive. They're two completely different experiences and driving styles.

I disagree. While they ARE completely different driving styles, just learning the effect of gas/power, braking/steering, g forces, turning, speed/distance relations...all pertain to operating a motor vehicle.
As a kid I started racing motorbikes at age 10. I also was driving quads and dune buggies the whole time. By the time I hopped into a car at age 15, I was driving around the streets without a license and it was like riding a bike for me. It was an easy transition. I had my learners for 6weeks and then passed my drivers test on the first attempt. I didn't even find it a challenge.
Your argument is like saying there's a difference between driving a compact automatic car and a 10 ton truck with manual tranny. Sure its completely different but it's still "the same principles".
For someone to just hop into a car, without ever having driven ANYTHING motor powered, it is a larger learning curve.
I was teaching a buddy of mine to drive, who lived a sheltered life. Never drove anything. When he got behind the wheel....holy shit, he couldn't even grasp how fast or slow he was driving...hammering the brakes at every turn, flooring it, lurching, over steering, under steering... Took him a long time to get the "feel" of a car.
Learning to drive a Kart, you still learn all the basics of motor vehicle operation.
I agree that it's better as an alternative to nothing but I maintain that throwing him in a real car is a better way to teach him how to drive a real car. If that's not possible then sure.
I'm not a parent though, I hear that's a prerequisite for offering any sort of insight into teaching somebody something around here, haha.

I agree with this however these thigns can be learned rather quickly. it's the maturity and responsibility of operating a piece of machinery with lethal potential that takes a while to learn.
i think karting is great way to teach kids to drive but more in competition when recklessness and poor judgement result in punishment and revoking that which you son/daughter and worked so hard to gain.

I'd think it would get faster as time progresses as the track gets rubbered in. Its kinda slick and dusty since its new.

How do you know what power level you are on?
Was there with jdmgt and some others today, ran a 22.077. Want more speed!
if you want more speed clearly you aren't on the top level haha
sounds like the track is getting stickier will be there tomorrow :)

Only did two races. Best time is 22.039 on regular power. I will have to reserve my judgement about the karts till I feel the "unlocked" power setting.
Bart, Last night talking to what I thought was the manager/owner, they are closed today and will reopen on Tuesday. Something to do with more prep...
Call first in case I heard wrong. lol
They're closed every Monday according to the website, but bart posted this morning so I think he means he's going on Tuesday.

oops, reading has beat me again this morning. lol
And I thought I would mention that my best lap (22.039) is mainly quite impressive seeing i'm 6'2 and over 250lbs. The torque really helped me keep up, but my weight still hindered me in the corners. I love these karts! lol
Yeah yeah, excuses. I can't wait to hear buh_buh and rage2 with theirs.
Tomaz
01-21-2013, 11:39 AM
That's what's missing there. They need an excuse cone! lol
So, what's your best time Mibz? Perhaps rage2, buh_buh, and myself could challenge you. $20 buy in. Winner takes all.
If I win, I take the money and I take the respect. To some people it is more important. lol
I keep meaning to post up times from our trip to Vegas, haha. I'll get around to it some day.
Also, don't let my mouth fool you, I don't expect to be any good at this. I do, however, expect some huge whining from some people :P
When you win you're gonna have to buy me a beer. I'll drink any beer at the bar, as long as it's a Corona.

Went last night. The brakes are a bit rubbish and it understeers quite a bit. While it's quite pricey, it was fun enough that I'll probably go a few times a month until the snow melts. Should be more fun on the faster settings.
I'm right behind you in the standings:
21.744 (level 3).

Was that on reg speed or "pro speed"?
I am heading down after work today as I foolishly keep challenging my friend. lol
This was gas karts at some place in Vegas. I just realized that my wording makes that confusing :P
"pro speed" on gas karts is simply getting the kart that isn't broken, haha.

10 Races worth it?
Just came back from Speeders. To be honest, I'm quite impressed. It's been way too long since we last had a quality indoor go kart venue. Few big positives with the facility are ease of racer profile registration, free pin secured lockers and awesome electric karts. It was definitely fun for sure and it would be great if we can get some Beyond group racing. Overall, it feels there's quite a bit of money invested into this place.
Some of you guys are fast. My best time tonight is 22.340. I need more practice! :burnout:

Haha 16$ is pricey? Christ it was 25$ at Kartworld for 5-10Minutes. and those carts were garbage.
The price is absolutely on par with the amount of racing you get, as well as the fact the carts are new, in good shape, and they do everything they can to keep them in that shape. you get dinged for everything unless its inevitable.
I find its an absolute riot, especially if you have a bastard like tomaz trying to beat you all the time :P

on another note, got the prospeed tonight, makes the carts a little more enjoyable, more power, increased my lap time by about .500-.800 ton of fun at prospeed.

so how many karts in a race? and whats the total time a race takes? (like the time the flag drops till the time the flag drops for the next race)
mboldt
01-24-2013, 05:23 PM
5-6 minutes per race I think is what it works out to.
Usually 10-12 karts in a race. Last night 10 of us went out, they stopped us all, added another 4 people, which was kinda annoying. Heavy traffic but it is fun to pressure people and passing but if you want lap times, definitely not the time to go.
You also gain reward points, you start with 1200 points, once you reach 2000 you get a few free races I believe. I was earning 18-24 points being in the top 3 lap times of groups of 8-12... So if you want points, you'll gain more racing against more people in a group.
12 Races and you unlock 'pro speed' which is awesome.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFhCNXXiAi4
Here are the times as of when I left last night... I am sitting at #5-6 now. Jay was sitting ontop for times and was down to 21.26. Almost under 20 seconds for the pro speed too.
I will definitely be going back next week.. Can't wait for Pro Speed!!

My fastest time for Race speed is 21.565 (5th place as of my sheet) and my fastest for Pro speed is 20.964 (I've only done one race at Pro speed which was my test race).
My race name is "Viper - Lotus Eater", just to bug my buddies with their Lotuses.

Well if you or anyone see me there say hi, I have a Shoei helmet and Dainese bike gloves, 6'1" white dude.
I'm very curious as to how much weight affects the karts, I'm 195lbs, you would think that weight would make a huge difference but I haven't noticed that at all.

I went tonight and it was packed! We were also put together with people who didn't know the rules and I couldn't get a clean lap at all!
They clustered and wouldn't let me pass. I tried to squeeze in but I hit the wall instead. :banghead:

I suggest going on weeknights.
I went tonight and it was packed! We were also put together with people who didn't know the rules and I couldn't get a clean lap at all!
They clustered and wouldn't let me pass. I tried to squeeze in but I hit the wall instead. :banghead:
I'm coming back to get a better time but not a good start:

:werd: I hated that girl who kept bumping into me and pinning me against the wall. :whipped:
We will just have to go more often to be apart of the top 5 don haha. :burnout:
