New Go Kart Track In Calgary Opening

Just went this afternoon, it was crazy busy, got some good lap times though, I'm in second for the week with a 21.094 my best last time I went was 21.5 so I'm impressed with the improvement, I got the kart to stop hopping now lol.

First time there today...did 5 sessions. Started with a 22.282, 4th session I got 21.466, last session was a 21.58 because this kid in front of me thought he was Mario Andretti and the keep left flag clearly wasn't meant for him, and his line through all the big corners was basically to stay right in the middle of the track, made it impossible to get by him. In hindsight should have given him a couple lengths and carried more speed through the corner and get around him on the straight...but lost focus with frustration :P

The card you carry will work at both locations, also races from one location count at the other ie. if you never been to the Edmonton Location before but you have race speed in Calgary you can start off with race speed (dont need to do the 5 laps at pit speed).

The exception is with pro speed. If you have pro speed in Edmonton for example you have to still do your pro speed test in Calgary. So basically you'll have to prove that you can handle the extra power with the track config in Calgary with the pro speed test.

Its just the data from the printout overlaid onto the video. It's not a separate timing system or anything :)

Did my pro speed "test" and managed a 20.232 which put me in 10th, not bad for my first run at that speed

Just be warned guys, if they ask you to do any labour such as helping out change the track make sure it's worth your time! I've heard stories from pro racers that they like to only give 1-3 races for a late night track change once every 6 months.

Prospeed is faster. Its 10-15 races, whenever the guys feel you are capable to do a test run. If you pass your test run (just don't drift/crash, don't need to set a record) you can do prospeed whenever after that.

I have done 3 races so far and my best time so far was 21.465, down from 21.819 my first time out. I don't use the brakes at all, I tried using them on my second race, but find it faster not to use them, my times were consistently slower than my first and third time out where I didn't use the brakes. Interestingly though, my buddy who has about 50lbs on me (hes 200lbs, I am around 150) uses the brakes and we have nearly identical times, his best is 21.429. Boy did he rub that in, my excuse is that he has more more grip with the added weight :D

It would be interesting to know how much the guys running the fastest times weight. It would also be cool if they kept track of which kart you were in, just to see if certain karts are consistently running the top times. I bet they are all consistent right now since they are all brand new. Curious though, is it confirmed that the fastest guys don't use the brakes on race speed(slower speed)? These guys are gonna make a killing feeding off guys ego's.

Choosing the kart was my exact same thought I had yesterday. But you can definitely tell which cars are losing their touch. But its mehh

JG (i think he is the fastest atm) is a pretty big dude. he can do 19 secs on pro speed, and 20 secs on race speed.

Fourplusone Jay looks like he weight 140 tops.

Watching those two go at it on pro speed is pretty entertaining.

Shoot I meant the slower speed which is race speed, I edited my original post. I would imagine on the faster speed (pro speed) you would have to use the brakes a bit.

I would imagine the track is getting more rubber down is what I'm suggesting. I did see they have a cleaner that they use not sure how often. Might go down this weekend. Havnt been in a few weeks.

I was there for the Ultimate GP tournament with 8 other people. Great times! My best was 22.1 (I saw Flipstah there, or at least his car. I couldn`t recognize him in person.)

Man, I`d love to do about 10 or so laps by myself to see what I can really do. Its great when you get Pole position and youre the first person out, that way you can really bust it. I ended up getting the Gold medal in our event. Im quite surprised over that since I had some really stiff competition.

I dont get how that rating system really works though, my buddy had a lower average lap time then I did all the races. He should have gotten gold with me getting silver. He was 0.100 faster then I was on average. :dunno:

It was funny seeing all the guys on other drop ins get the black flag. Some of the shit they were doing was absolutely retarded.

It's not average but the best lap you've done. Consistency isn't the key and neither is passing people.

It's starting to rack up quick so I won't be going for a while haha. I'm half-way till pro speed though.

When you guys go on the weekend how long do you find yourself waiting around for inbetween races to get back on the track? I was wanting to do a booking with some friends this weekend but i dont think enough of them can make it to fill the 10 spots for a private race. I just don't want to be waiting around all day to do 2 or 3 races.

Go early as you can, its like a mall before noon it isn't bad after noon its nuts. Also book all your races at the counter first thing, don't do a race then go back and book another etc it takes forever.

I would go Friday but I'm headed to fernie for the long weekend. I noticed the kart in my second race was chattering around all the high speed corners. Kart #19 was the one I got in my first race and it was fine, but kart #1 was awfully choppy.

You sure? Even the fastest guy in the top 100 (foudplusone jay) was running 1/2 second slower last night than his fastest time.

its not that the karts are slower. they changed the layout slightly to slow it down. Back straight is tighter, puts you slower into 3. 4 and 5 are a little different too.

I want to bring my camera one night and get some pictures. Also, love the idea of a blue tooth audio system in the helmet...I might have to just wear my ipod under my helmet...

A bunch of the people with their own helmets ride too, so it's not like I own a helmet just for Go Karting...that would be weird.

Haha I can see it now. All the calgary douchebags going and spending $1k on Shoei and AGV lids, solely meant for use at Speeders.

I don't have a street helmet anymore, but I saw a couple people last night with dirt helmets and goggles. I think I'm gonna bring mine next time so I don't have to deal with those lame head socks.
