Any recommendations for an all-mountain ski?

Last season I was on some borrowed BD Verdicts (http://www.backcountry.com/black-diamond-verdict-telemark-ski), with AT bindings... I'm looking for something similar with normal bindings, and about 95mm underfoot. Right now, I'm liking the idea of the Atmoic Theory's (http://freeskier.com/gear/2012/atomic-theory-skis-review) with the rocker, but there are many other skis out there that I haven't heard of. Hoping to find old stock on sale :)

South Island. The club fields are the bomb. Great terrain with no people, but they all use these sketchy ass rope tows powered by a tractor. Queenstown/Wanaka is good too but a lot more commercial and touristy. I guess if you want purist skiing go to the clubbies, and if you want a good apres ski party and still have some good terrain then hit up QT.

^^ Queenstown is stupid fun, but Wanaka is one of my favorite small towns that I've had a chance to visit.

SUPER excited for this season, I was traveling the first half of the season and was broke/unemployed and only got out a few times.

Now all I have to do is get my ass together and save up for gear. I don't think I can punish my skis/boots through another season :(

i cant wait for this season. a few really good buddies who rip moved from edmonton to calgary so every weekend were gonna have a wicked crew out.

i picked up my lake louise pass end of May, soooo stoked to ditch shine and get to louise this season!

gonna get some new park skis this year and maybe a new coat but other than that most of the gear will remain the same

I hate buying boards online. Simply for the fact that you can pay a tiny bit more (you really don't get that much better of a deal online on the new stuff than you do in store) and help support a local business.

If you're looking for hot deals on old stuff, online is your place, but you missed the boat on most of the clear out sales.

What size of board you looking for?

I had such a good year last year it's going to be tough to beat.

Skiied 5 hills I'd never been to before (Whitefish, Whistler, Mt. Washington, Mt. Cain, and Fairmont).

Planning another trip to Cain this winter to try and follow up on the best day I've ever had - hope I'm not 'chasing the dragon' so to speak.

I've only been skiing for 4 years but I'm seriously hooked.

Did this exact trip last year. Stayed on hill in a very nice condo that accommodated 10 people.

it wasn't cheap but this is the company we booked through http://www.kristianna.com/whitefish.html

The Beer Stube NYE party was pretty good and the town has everything you could need - we did not luck out with the best snow last year, but on past trips Whitefish has really delivered.

Plus everybody I know who skis or boards spend more time in the bar and/or tucked away smoking weed than actually skiing, I don't do any of that shit so fuck 'em all, see ya at the bottom (maybe)

Looking for some input from you guys as I have a dilemma!

Got some options for attending a few different ski trips early next year and need some advice on which to choose.

Option 1:
Big White
Feb 15-18 (Family Day Long Weekend)

Option 2:
Castle Mountain
March 1-3

I've never been to either mountain before.

What are conditions typically like that time of year for each resort?
How busy is each respective hill going to be on the mentioned dates?
What type of terrain is each hill best known for?

To give you an idea of what I like, my fav mountain is Whitefish. Next to no lineups and tons of wider gladed areas.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

^^

I have never been to Big White, so I can't give you any advice, but have been to Castle many times. I love castle, but the lineups can get bad on weekends on a powder day. The last couple years, they have gotten DUMPED on in early March.

A video of March 6th, 2012, not sure how much they got then.

Terrain at Castle is pretty good, not as good as KH or Louise, but the glades on the Northern runs are really fun, and you can find a drop now and then. They only have a double charilift going up to the top, which equates to long lines on busy days, but also means that you will be able to find freshies until closing time.

i have never been to castle ( i know i know, this year though!)
but i have been to big white a few times. it has some really fun gladed areas, next to no lines (im not sure about the family day weekend though) and some great snow when they get it. big dumps arent super common but its champagne when it does dump!

Went and saw Further in Banff on saturday, even though it was out in September. Must say it was quite the film!

I find his movies much better than that of something like The Art of Flight. I Just seem to appreciate what he does more. Some of those trips he goes on just seem like they would be once in a life time!

Can't wait till Deeper comes out!
