Nikon has failed to impress me the past few years which Is why I'm such a Canon Fan. Canon has the best Lens' and Cameras IMO. Nikon fell behind in the industry, just were not producing enough cameras. Still have great stuff for sure, but I dont feel they are quite at the level of Canon who is #1 in the undustry versus Nikon in 4th.

the 10-22 is only F3.5 wide open. It's just seems to be the wide angle that makes it so expesive.

Are you thinking of the 16-35mm F2.8?

I'd love to have a 17-40 F4 though.

Try opening up the aperture more (smaller f/ stop number).

yes, that's the premise. UV light can, if unfiltered, cause the image to look hazey.

however, there are drawbacks. many of the kit or economy UV filters are not made of optical glass (hoya, canon, tiffen, etc) therefore they actually degrade image quality (sharpness), increase flare and cause vignettes to show.

the best filters are the ones made by b+w but they are very pricey. i use the hoya HMC, but i put them on mine for protection only. if you truly want something interesting, try a circular polarizing filter. =)

Canon Tele-photo extenders... Are they only designed to work with L seres lens, or with they work with the full range of Lens?

I believe the extenders are only designed to work with lenses longer than 135. So it would not work with your 28-105.

D'z Nutz
09-09-2005, 07:52 PM
Yeah, you can't just get a TC and use it on any lens. They're designed for lenses in the longer range, not necessarily L lenses (ie: they wouldn't work on the 16-35L or 17-40L). The glass element on the TC would more than likely get in the way of the lens' rear element if it's incompatible and then you wouldn't be able to mount it onto the TC.

On 1.4x TC's, you're supposed to lose a stop of aperture and 2 stops for 2x TC's if I'm not mistaken. The AF may also be effected in that it may slow down or not even work at all, depending on the lens/TC combo.

Yup. It's a 12mm extension tube for EF mounts. If you're interested in getting extension tubes, you should look into the Kenko ones. For $200 you get a set of three (12/20/36mm). Since there's no glass element in the extension tube, image quality is the same as the Canons.

You can also go on eBay and find some cheap sets for ~$30. The only difference is there's no pin connections, so there's no communication between the body and the lens (ie: loss of AF and lens EXIF info). Macro stuff should be shot in MF anyways.

I noticed those sets (and individuals) on BH photo... I need something, I am really not enjoying the lack of Macro functionality that I currently LACK in my "arsenal" of lenses.

Don't think it's going to help that much. With the tubes, your working distance is going to be really short, or if you use all the tubes, you might not have any at all.

The nice thing about doing macros is you can find a lot of cheap and effective ways of shooting them without needing a lot of fancy equipment.

Extension tubes reduce the focusing distance of your lens which is why you're able to get closer to something. There's no glass, so there's no real loss of image quality when using them. However, a bit of light is lost between the lens and the film/sensor. Plus extension tubes may only be really effective with certain focal lengths.

You may also want to look at getting a diopter/close-up filter/close-up lens (different names for the same thing). It's basically a magnifying glass that screws to the front of your lens, much like a filter (though it doesn't really filter anything). You don't lose the light you would with the tubes, but because it's an extra optical element, there's a small degrading in image quality, though not really noticable if you're using a quality diopter. It's cheaper than getting a set of tubes, plus when combined with a telephoto lens, you get some great working distance. The good ones to look into are the Canon 250D and 500D and Nikon 3T,4T,5T, or 6T. I use the Nikon 6T myself and highly recommend it. It's the same quality as the Canons at a much cheaper price. You can find it for $100 brand new locally.

I mentioned to you before that you can also shoot macros by taking a lens and shooting it in reverse. This works well on lenses with focal lengths between 24mm-50mm. You can get rings to mount a lens backwards to the body for about ~$40 on eBay so you don't have to hand hold them. You can also get reverse rings to mount a lens backwards onto another lens like you would a filter for about the same price. Either method works well for cheap macros if you already have the lenses. If you want to set the aperture on the reversed lens, mount it onto the camera, set the aperture, press and hold the DOF preview button, and while holding it release the lens.

That should give you a few ideas to get you started! Depending on what you're trying to shoot, somethings may work better than others.

The Camera Store. They're like $35 for the non-flash version and $60 for the flash version.

Small and really powerful Resize program that I usually used.
This is freeware so you can download and use it for free.
Developed by korean fella but also have english option you can choose. One of the best thing about this program is that there are about 100s of frames(Boarders) that you can select.
Pretty cool and neat program.

I just got a couple PM from beyonders about the boarders on my pics so would like to share the program.
I know my writing is horrible due to alcohol. haha..
anyways...

About PhotoWorks & Download (http://andojung.com/photoWORKS/)

I know this site is in Korean, but if you guy have any questions or concerns, plz let me know vis PM.

Cheers!!!

I was shooting at Prince's Island Park during the summer and kept getting these flares in my shot. I had a CP filter on it and I didn't feel it was doing enough so I got a Lens Hood for it.

The petal hood set me back 55 bucks and it wasn't even that big.
Did it help fix the problem? Yes. but a whole new set of problems arose.

When the hood is on, it casts a shadow when I use my built in flash. Also it makes it harder to adjust the CP filter. I have to stick my finger into the hood and sometimes I leave a finger print on the edge. When the filter is reversed and back on the lens, I can't turn the zoom....

Just some pet peeves...

Good time to get a new Flash unit for your camera.

That's one thing i don't like about canon, you have to spend more extra for really stupid things like hoods and spot metering option..

Going through flash tutorials this morning and thought I'd post this since it wasn't here, surprisingly. Stroll down a tad to get the pick-lists.
