Hey everyone,

I used to post some of my artwork on here, but it has been a while. I just thought I'd share my latest work, as it is automotive related in a sense. I was commissioned along with two other local Alberta artists by the Edmonton Arts Council to create designs for two different types of garbage trucks. The trucks are being used to promote waste management, and to celebrate the opening of a new facility. There will be six trucks total, two designs per artist. I have yet to see the other designs by the artists, so I am quite excited!

This is my rear loader design, the first of the six trucks to be completed. Let me know what you think! I'd love to get some conversations started. I'll post more pictures as I receive them. The truck is already in use in Edmonton.

Since these trucks are to be used in the Edmonton area, I suggest secretly rigging up a speaker from an ice cream truck; you know, to troll the kids.

Thanks Brett, and everyone else for the kind words! I actually have yet to see the truck in person, as I've been working remotely on this one. When the second truck is done, I'll have to make a trip up there to see them in action.

And yes, as EK 2.0 pointed out, the second truck will be utilizing the 'arms' of the truck to feed itself. The arms of the truck will likely not be vinyl wrapped, so they will remain the original white of the truck, with the silvery/white robot vinyl.

I should also mention that each of the six trucks created (two of which are mine) will also have a corresponding panel installed on the side of the new waste management facility. I believe they said the life expectancy of the trucks vinyl is one to two years.

good job on the artwork, it looks really cool in person. they did a really good job on the wrap, it doesnt look like that would have been easy to do.

another interesting bit of info the news have left out is this truck has a unique hybrid drive system on it. while the hydraulic pumps and motors break in, the driveline has a loud whine to it when accelerating/decelerating. so the sounds this truck make really match with the robot on the side.

The big tube you see under the spill kit is a very large nitrogen filled accumulator.

Im looking forward to seeing your front end bin loader truck design in person, thats going to look awesome.

Ahh, see that's something I was never told about myself. My knowledge of the trucks being used is little, I'm glad there are others who are also interested in that aspect of this project.

I'm going to have to give it a good listen when I see it.

The hybrid system uses regenerative braking to supplament engine power using its own unique hydraulic system, with a nitrogen charged accumulator being the source of energy storage. I was told by the engineers that the noise from the pumps and motors gears will quiet down over time as the gears all bed in. All the other techs agree the sounds match the artwork perfectly.

Were you the one that painted the giant bins as well?

I'm not sure which giant bins you refer too, so I'm inclined to say no :)

Unless you mean the giant bin on the truck! haha

As SR54RNR mentioned, the second truck is done. Do you work for Edmonton Waste Management? How have you already seen it? I just received photo's of it today. :) I'll hopefully go up soon to photograph both trucks myself. I have to make some design changes for one of the building panels, but I'll keep you guys posted on that stuff too.

Legs? Arms? No one really knows! ;)

I actually thought of that too when I was making the original drawing, and was a bit concerned. But then I figured no one reaaaally knows what the bottom half looks like, so it could be anything

I managed to make it up to Edmonton last night, and snap some pics this morning. The staff at the waste management facility were more than accommodating! I got to shoot the rear loader inside of the garage, which was amazing. Huge, open space with lots of light! Funnest shoot I've done for sure!

After that, they drove me out to see the top loader! SR54runner, I just saw your post now, were you at the facility this morning (Monday)?
