As seen in the general offroad thread.

Planning an easy/stocker run on Sunday August 26th. We will most likely head to the falls.

It's open to everyone with a 4x4 truck or SUV in good mechanical shape with FRONT AND REAR TOW POINTS.

Some of us already have recovery equipment so it's optional.

We will meet at the Subway in the Bragg Creek Plaza and roll out at 10 AM.

UPDATED TO SUNDAY 26th

Fraser shall take us to the falls...Right? ;)

They'll be at least 2 or 3 Stockers so it won't be anything crazy.

Hope it works for you Andy.

TwinCam, I'm pretty sure you can get tow hooks from PNP or kijiji if you want to come down. The LTX should be fine for what we're doing.

You wouldn't believe the stuff I have seen show up on runs. Even runs where it was explicitly stated to have your stuff in order and even some non-stock runs.

And if anyone is interested, we will be going to the place that was featured in the opening sequence of The Bourne Legacy.

Ok, so do peeps without straps and such need to get them, or will there be enough to go around?

I am assuming that since this is a stocker run, we don't have to worry about getting stuck?

Anyone have a trail map?

Depends on how much the vehicle weighs. I have 2 2"x30' 16k straps and a 3"x30' 24k strap. That is for a 5k lb Jeep, which is overkill.

http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8020946/Tow-Straps-%26-Ropes/1-in.-x-15-ft-Recovery-Strap

That's the strap I have (well, mine are thicker). The idea is that unlike a tow strap, the recovery strap has some designed stretch so it doesn't shock-load the recovery points. Tow straps usually have those terrible hooks on them that tend to turn into high-speed shrapnel when used for recovery.

For anyone else interested Modern Motors has much better straps for the price in comparison to PA. I think I paid $35 for my 3 x 30 recovery strap. The PA ones are sturdy, but they offer almost no stretch and are more of a tow strap.

If you have the cash though invest in a good ARB one, night and day difference between ARB and the other two.

Also make sure you guys get some good pics! Pissed I won't be in town for it.

Wow big list so far. If there is still room I'd be down for this.

1995 4Runner all stock with stock recovery points front and rear.

I only have basic gear like tow straps, but I'll bring it along anyways.

Is there a plan for communications? Especially with such a large group. Or is it just follow the leader?

projekz
08-22-2012, 10:55 PM
Of course there's always room for more. Those of you who have FRS radios are welcome to bring them. I'm sure a few of us will have some.

We'll try to stick together as a group and keep the truck in front and behind us in sight at all times so that there is nobody left behind stuck or broken down.

That is exactly where it is. There is a nice open spot next to the river and it is about a 5 minute walk to the falls. No barriers or anything on this side.

Gonna give the trackbar one last shot tomorrow. Probably have to remove half my steering lol to get to it.

OEM bracket. It's happening becuase I installed the new steering, all the stress has to go somewhere since the steering is 1.25" heat treated solid bar with 1 ton tie rod ends.

The new bracket I have coming is 1/4" plate and a 1.25" track bar. I'll probbaly need to upgrade the steering box next since that is probably where all the stress will go.

BerserkerCatSplat
08-23-2012, 08:41 AM
Yeah, the steering box mount ears would be my next concern, a box brace may be in your future. That new bracket and trackbar sounds beefy, who makes it?

Neither. I bought a 2010 with the 5.4.

I couldn't pass up the deal. It was $18K off MSRP.

I got a fully loaded FX4 minus Nav for $34K incl GST. I also didn't want to buy in the first year of the Ecoboost. I had enough issues with a 2008 335 (second year of the N54).

I am waiting for the new F150.
