Need your opinion Beyond on flooring

So we are thinking of tearing up the carpets in the bedrooms and replacing with a laminate or cork flooring. We are thinking cork because it's supposed to hold heat alittle better than the laminate but the problem is trying to find a similar pattern/ color that is in the rest of the house. My question is, what you think if we used a different color compared to what is coming to the doors of the bedrooms? If you were to use a different color, would you go lighter or darker and would you lay it in the same manner ie: lay the floor in the same direction or change it 90 degrees?
