So Im towing a travel trailer from Calgary to Vancouver Island. Planning on taking up to a week to get there. Was just looking for recommendations on camp grounds to stay at along the way. I don't mind going a little ways off the beaten path to get there. We also have a newborn, so preferably places with a little privacy and not too hot at night (we don't have air conditioning and places like Osoyoos might be a little too hot).

Camp Free in BC is a good book, as are the relevant backroad mapbooks, which list a lot of good campsites that are off the highway.

One "backroad" way to get there is to take Washinton State highway 20 from colville to burlington. Lots of mountain passes, so it's a little bit of a pain in a trailer, but cheaper gas in the USA, cheaper booze, and very pretty scenery that is a nice change from the BC routes. Plus the Washington state ferry from Anacortez is very good.

If that's not for you, at least go Kamloops/lilooet/pemberton/squamish. A great driving road, no heavy traffic, and great camping.

As for being too hot, stay at high elevation places away from the okanagan.

Good luck!
