Considering putting together a dining room table using stone as a top. Most of the stuff out there is faux marble and as a geologist I doubt I could handle it (I know I know). Undecided on the exact rock type I want to use but I think the most expensive part will be the top so I'd like to start there. The cut would be dead simple but not sure what shops to start with.

One assumes the dining room table stays with the room? It ain't gonna be light:

This might appeal to your geo side (rocks under glass): http://www.liveedge.com/?p=portfolio&gal=instock

Yeah it's gonna be heavy. Tried it out with your calculator. 65x36x1 is 232lbs! The wood is actually pretty cool for a cabin but to be honest, it's too much for my place and starting at $4,000..it could get out of hand!
