Probably a repost but never saw it

Who ever built that roll cage did an amazing job, and no fire, very well prepped.

That really is quite spectacular. Amazing what modern engineering and reinforcement will do - if that was any regular car they'd be dead for certain.

That subject is up to debate a bit, but here's some pics of the aftermath.

I'll just point you to this thread instead of getting into it here. http://forums.evolutionm.net/motor-sports/594243-evolution-dynamics-pikes-peak-build.html

^^ This.

Everything else is all just getting into bullshit theory and at the end of the day DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. I read the whole thread that you posted Archer. Seems like a bunch of pretend know-it-alls comparing penis's about what shoulda, coulda, woulda. All that matters is that they walked away. Roll cage is a success. End of story.

haha completely, that cage did it's job a bunch of times over, never ever seen a crash like that. If I was in that car I'd be shaking the builders hand next time I saw them.

Yes they were GoPros. The whole event was sponsored by them.

No, the roll cage was a piece of garbage. To give credit where credit is due, it was ASSEMBLED properly (ie, welding was good).

And you aren't a pretend know-it-all? What do you know about roll cages? Built them? Designed them from scratch? CRASHED in them? Put them through solidworks to test their theoretical strength? Oh, and welding together a drag cage does not count (in case you have done that, as many people have in this province).

That cage was a flaming piece of garbage. The ONLY reason there was not serious injury was luck. That crash? Probably one of the BEST you can have for the situation(rolls/tumbling spread out the energy dissipated in a crash, missed any of the big rocks that would have intruded into the occupants space).

The purpose of a cage is to protect the occupants, end of discussion. This cage did not do that:

http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv198/aaa-111/PikesPeak/Pikes_Peak_2012/foley/Yuri_Helmet_2.jpg

Also, to highlight how POORLY built the car was as a whole:

http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv198/aaa-111/PikesPeak/Pikes_Peak_2012/foley/IMG_20120813_143314.jpg

Even in some of the most brutal, DEAD STOP side impacts against a tree, have I saw that much cabin intrusion. It is complete and utter bullshit. The cage was designed to road racing specs (which is allowed, a failure on PPHIC, but I digress). Not only that, but the cage was also built with SINGLE occupancy in the cabin of the car, it was not designed to protect a 2nd passenger.

http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv198/aaa-111/PikesPeak/Pikes_Peak_2012/foley/EIhTP.jpg

The worst part is, BECAUSE there were no injuries, everyone claims this a success. No, this was straight up luck. Jari Matti Latvala did virtually the same thing a year or two ago, and because that car had a proper, well built cage in it, the friekin' car could even be rebuilt.

Ever been to an actual industrial work site? Kiewitt has a saying "mining the diamond" where the diamond represents luck in regards to safety (or something along those lines). The goal is ZERO injuries. These guys mined the fuck out of the diamond and are lucky to be alive due to unsafe practices. This is one reason why road race cages are not allowed in rally, because they are not built to survive the same sort of impacts. However, that will never be told on TV (I heard they had an interview on a freikin' cable news network FFS) and no one besides people who actually race will know the truth. A shame
:(

Blah blah blah

They both walked away from a huge off of a cliff with many many roll overs on very large rocky terrain.

End of story

Could it have been better built, no doubt. Everything can be.

No, it should have been built differently in the first place, end of story. And then you don't brag that you're an "engineer" and know what you are talking about when you clearly don't.

HiTempguy1 is totally right. This thing had a road race cage and it should have had a rally cage.

I wouldn't be caught dead driving a car with that cage in Pikes Peak.

Ahhh, love the internet experts and troll dolls!

They BOTH survived a wicked crash and fall, cage met the rules going in, had additional bracing on top that the builder saw fit, and THEY SURVIVED. end of story. :dunno:

What if, coulda, shoulda, blah blah.

Hey, what if it had a rally cage, and a 3" tree branch harpooned the driver?

Want them to drive tanks next year instead??

Motorsports will NEVER be without risk.
