Hey I went down to the zoo today with my parents and took some pictures. Here are the first few I have edited

http://www.melindasyryda.com/MiscPhotos/Swan1FrameSmall.jpg
http://www.melindasyryda.com/MiscPhotos/MonkeyGroomingSmall.jpg

These two are my favorite...my mom is responsible for getting the red pandas to look at me and I had to photoshop the bars out of the picture for the tigers...hope you like them!

Hey Melinda,

Send me the original picture of the tigers, I'll get the bar out of there. I noticed you did a good job at it but there is still alot of blur, I can fix that for ya :)

I have got to go there sometime. Nice pictures, I hope you'l lbe putting the rest up either here or on your site.

A have a few questions.
1. Did you find your aperture to be greater then F4 in most of those shots?
2. Did you use a flash with the swan pic? Are you allowed to use flash at the zoo?
3. Did you use that common color select tool with the red pandas for the background? because there's something a little weird about that pic.
4. Why does that owl freak me out so much?

Nice work with the bars, I probably wouldn't have noticed if you didn' tell me.

Great pics Melinda :D The red pandas are so cute.

It is a coincidence! Me and Benny are going to the Zoo tomorrow. I have to observe some primates for my anthropology lab and he is going to take pics. ;)

Thanks Graham :) To answer your questions:

1. Yes, with the gloomy day and the distance I was zooming (especially since it was winter and most of the animals were inside) most of my shots were about 2.8 with a flash.
2. Yes, I used a fill flash with the swan and yes, you can use flash at the zoo, I have never had problems there before and I've been there a few times to do pictures of the animals.
3. No, the panda picture is exactly as it was taken. The only alterations I did on the photos were the bars in the tiger picture and making the owl black and white...other then that it is just levels and minor color corrections in photoshop
4. I dunno but I took that picture just for you lol...I remember you telling me that the yellow in the owl's eyes freak you out so I had dad scare the owl for me so his eyes would open and I photoshoped it so that the yellows were the only thing in color :)

Thanks for all the other nice comments guys, still working on some of the others! I'll post up some of the ones I took in other trips to the zoo :)

What types of things do you do when you "edit" the pics?

Usually just levels and color correction...howoever, with the tigers, i photoshopped the bars out of the picture to make the focus on the tigers and not on the bars infront of the tigers

Ben

You spend so much time editing your pics Mel, just post em up. LOL. Noones gonna care if the colors arn't bang on, I dont anyways.

If it was for a magazine or something...well then take the time, but noones gonna care on a computer screen on a car forum :)

Haha I care Ben, I'm a perfectionist with my work...that's why I can take 500 pictures in a day and everyone would only get to see 100 of them...I'm picky with what I show the rest of the world and because this has become a good part of my living, I don't want a potential client (alot of them come from this site) to see something that isn't my best work

Thanks Zorro! :D

I agree with making the pics look their best. Even if I'm taking showing pics from a cruise, I fix the colors and contrast.

I am seriously thinking of getting a 70-200 F2.8 L IS

Been checking in the states... it is about $500 cheaper...

Ben

Yeah, dont get me wrong, editing photos to look they best is key with clients and such, but for every day use I just try not to rely on photo editing to save my ass, cause when push comes to shove and you're in a bind, it might not always be an option :) If I have lots of time and doesn't have a deadline then sure, I'll try the photoediting thing out, but if its a rush, I'd rather spend 30 seconds extra getting the settings proper on my camera than a few hours getting the colors right on the computer. Like car shows, I dont have time to go through 450 plus photos and correct all the imperfections, and people dont want to wait a week or 2 to see the pics. Thats all I'm saying.

I'm thinking about returning my F4 so I can get it cheaper from the states. I might not because it'll be a hassle though.

I emailed that B&W website and they said Canon's 1 year warrenty is still good in Canada.

I dont often spend that much time on editing pictures and alot of my pictures have no editing done to them whatsoever.
