I know you're a spammer, but for those who are curious...

I wouldn't trust them in Calgary, too much salt on the roads, they'd seize up, and you'd have to take it off anyways.

For those who don't want to help his spamming by clicking his link.

Ive run one on my 2006 ram 1500 that I use for heavy oilfield work, driving through salt, sand, mud, gravel, water, and winter its never missed a beat, AWESOME product!

Other than removing the filter my hands dont get a drop of oil on them!

Whats stopping a chunk of ice from bumping up and knocking it open?

(Serious question)

To open the valve, you have to "lift" the silver handle against the force of the spring, and then rotate the handle 1/4 turn.

Pretty safe design to protect against accidental opening.

I use one similar to this:

I love it.

How much did that cost you? Ever since I saw a brochure at the dealer, I've been tempted to put one on my truck

on another automotive forum I use, which shall not be named, these are a commom modification to heavy-dutury pickup trucks in both commercial and personal use settings. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I installed one on a Legacy GT, 2.5RS, and my wife's 2000 Odyssey. They are freakin' awesome. Basically you can perform completely tool-less oil changes. Have never had a problem with them, and had never had any issues with the drain not opening. They are FAR less messy than having to pull out the drain plug with a socket, and there's no need to replace the compression gasket.

On my 2000 2.5 RS, it was even better because both the filter AND the drain spout was on the front of the car, and as a result, didn't even have to raise the car or drive it on a ramp to get underneath.

I am pretty sure it's practically impossible to open the spout using anything other than fingers (i.e. I can't see how a rock could open it).

I buy mine online straight from their website.

(Looks like there might be a Canadian site too but can't vouch for it).

Highly recommend.

Got it at Canadian Tire years ago for maybe $40. Not sure if they still sell them. Easily the best "mod" for the money I have ever done in my life.

Well, I guess I'm wrong then, lol.

Sweet, I'll have to give crappy tire a call to see if I can pick a few of these for my cars, trucks and bike.

EDIT: what sizes do they come in? I think there is a fair bit of difference with the various drain plugs. Or would I have to install a reducing adaptor for the smaller plugs?

Yep, I installed it on my old STi and I will be installing it on my X3 next oil change. The X3's plug hole is recessed a bit so I had to get an extension with it.

They only had one size when I bought mine. Simple to throw a bushing in if you have to though.

Are you on DP? It's a very common mod for most Duramax guys. No matter where you live it's a pretty sweet mod to really speed up oil changes.

This is the one I'm using. It comes with a lifetime guarantee that it will never accidentally open.

It's never failed me yet.

if you go to their site, you can put in your vehicle info and it will show you the ones you can get. I always buy from the site as well.

take a hammer and a screw driver, put a hole in the filter and pre drain the oil.. i usually do it on the side near the bottom.. then oil wont flow down the screwdriver

Brilliant! I'll try this next time. On another note, loved how the engine in my old MR2 has the filter upright, so there was zero mess. Worse is my wife's Odyssey; have to bend one of the plastic shields to get to it, and then it drains all over the x-member.

Yeah, they don't really seize up due to the salt. I've had one on my STi for 3.5 years, the bearing inside is still like brand new. It looks a little worse for wear, but still 100% functional.

My only complaint is that it's slow draining.

They deem to drain fast enough for me... Do you have your filler cap off and the car sufficiently warmed up? :dunno:

The drain is obviously a little smaller, but I mean it only takes 1-2 minutes longer for me, and I'm usually doing other things at the same time.

and there's no time wasted in removing the plug and putting it back in
