On the automatics you can shift to manual mode. If you are in the manual mode does it still restrict unsafe gear changes? For example driving 80-90 and attempting to shift down to second gear? Would it allow that or prevent the unsafe downshift?

Won't allow it or at least my Chevy won't.

It should not allow it.

I don't think it will. Keeps the stupid out of the equation.

Unmodified valve bodies should work like Rat Fink described. A shift kitted VB with semi-manual or full-manual shift will allow you to downshift regardless of speed. I modified mine for semi-manual - I downshifted to first going ~30 and it engine braked hard enough to chirp my tires. Haven't done that again!
