Long story short, GF parents are moving to an acreage and wanted me to go find a good used ATV so they can use to plow snow with. I know nothing about them and was wondering what would be a good brand? Average cost of one that is 2010 and newer? Nothing too expensive, only purpose pretty much is to shovel snow.

I would recomend a Honda Foreman for sure. Everyone in my family and group of quadding friends have one. Ranging from a 99 to 2011, and none of them have ever given anyone any problems. We mud them pretty hard, use them for logging, use them for pleasure crusing, and they never fail.

Only down fall is that you have to deal with Rocky Honda haha.

It's been awhile since I've been in the atv world but you couldn't go wrong with a Honda then and likely they are still a safe bet. I'd recommend a Foreman as well.

for basic stuff like plowing I'd probably go Honda as well. yamaha would be good too, the only advantage I can think of for the Yamaha is that you can get one with an actual diff-lock, whereas on a honda the best you'll get is 3wd. Not sure if that's necessary for plowing or not?

I would also check how you switch from forward to reverse, I haven't been on a Honda in a while but they used to have quite the procedure to switch to reverse... depending on the area you're plowing you may spend a lot of time going from F to R. Also make sure it has low range and a winch for the plow.

If I was trail riding it would be anything but Honda, they haven't updated their line in forever and they are way behind the rest in terms of power and features.

I think a Honda Foreman or a Yamaha Kodiak, both around 400-500cc would fit the bill pretty well.

How much is 'not too expensive'? I may have some other ideas depending on how much you want to spend, The above models are almost bullet proof and I wouldn't worry too much about getting a model older than 2010.

Suzuki viscon 500. We paid $4k for ours used last year, it's an 07. Still plenty of power, and it's impossible to get it stuck, and yes I've tried. I'm extremely happy with it, awesome unit.
The people we bought it from used it for plowing as well.

Another honda vote, my parents have had the same foreman on there acreage since 99 bought new, it has been through 2 kids, lots of abuse, and has never broke down once. Don't know hours off top of my head, but last time I was out there it was still running strong. It is only used now to plow snow, and starts in any temp.

My dads got the new grizzly 700 EFI and its fucking badass. I look forward to plowing the driveway everytime it snows, especially since my fucking neighbour thinks that plowing a pile of snow out on the road is going to make me go any slower past her dumbass kids on their driveway.

She gets that pile of snow right back into the middle of her driveway:D

+1 for the Foreman. My Grandparents run one HARD on their farm for 14+ years, been a real workhorse and it's been great.

+1 for Honda too, but you may also want to consider a good set of tires too. Them stock tires that come on the Honda's leave a lot to be desired unless you're in the open prairie in summer.

pretty well anything except a honda reliable yes, fun to ride not so much, the honda is just a farm quad/utility. Id say go for a polaris sportsman 500, pick one up with low kms for 4500-5000. good for plowing snow and fun to ride. If you just want something badass can cam renegade x is theeee 4x4 quad to have.

Which is what he is looking for. A Renegade for work would be fucking retarded. I know, I have one.

I picked up a Polaris Sportsman 500 earlier this summer and have really enjoyed it. I have ridden some gnarly trails and it has been fantastic.
