Can anyone recommend a cheap b&w laser printer? The last one I bought was like $60, but then the toner cartridges were super expensive after that. Just moved and need a new one, what is a good one for a reasonable price with reasonable priced toner?

thanks!

there's no such thing as reasonably priced toner. but even with as expensive as toner is, it's still WAY cheaper than inkjet ink.

Printers are cheap but you'll more than pay for it in the toner cost. Also check for availability of the toner cartridges, I've seen lots of cheap printers but couldn't find anyone carrying the toner.

How long do you plan on having this printer?
From looking, the more expensive lasers have cheaper toner.

Here's one:

Ethernet and duplex! You're living the dream now.

Cartridges:

I always order from these online sites. Have had no issues with the products from here. That's a decent price for toner.

I actually bought an office printer from a guy on beyond and I've ordered toner online ever since, so you could also chase down a cheap one thats getting tossed with an upgrade.

Good luck!

Remember, toner that comes with the printer is not as full as the ones you buy after that cost more money.

Toner is $75 at memory express, but could probably find a cheaper one online.

I bought a Lexmark a while ago with Ethernet (have to have) and the replacement cartridge was the same price as the printer ($100), but I just went online and bought the refill for like $16 bucks...this was like 3 years ago, still have one left. Came with the little microchip board you have to replace on the cartridge which keeps the information on the ink levels. Never will buy a new store cardridge, really no point

Sellink.ca is the site, just found it in my email. I lied, paid $19.99 for the refill. They have free shipping on order over $60, so just stack up :D

Just looked it up, the toner for the printer posted above, the SCX-3405FW is $14.99 on that site. Says a replacement chip is required which are apperantly sold on their site as well. those are prolly an extra $5 bucks or so. Was included in my kit, but for the samsung seems to be separate, but regardless. There may be info online as well that will describe more about some printers. For example, for Lexmark, apperantly if you refill before is below 20%, it won't mark it as being empty...and thus you can continue to use the same chip without having to replace it.

Speaking of toner, try checking out monoprice, they have started carrying it lately and I have found their prices a lot more reasonable than local stores. Of course there is shipping to pay, but if you are like me you find yourself ordering from them every month or two any way so it doesn't really add much :dunno:

In my case they have a TN330/360 replacement cartridge (says high yield so I would assume it actually replaces the tn360 which does 2600 pages instead of the 1500 of the tn330) for $25.42/each. Futureshop wants $60 for the TN330 and the best price I can find on the TN360 is $65 + shipping.

I was able to snag this printer for $75 awhile ago. Works awesome although I can't get the wifi working but that's probably because I'm an idiot.

I've been buying ink toners off eBay for aslong as I had printers and they have always been decent, no problems whatsoever. As for a printer, I'm not sure what's a good one.

Anyone have a cheap, reliable but more importantly small printer that they could recommend to a first year university student?

EDIT: and must work through a direct connection to the computer, no WiFi so my floor-mates can't use it.

I use a cheaper samsung laser printer when I travel for work. Memory express doesnt have it anymore (ML-1675), but you could try this one.

Those can be had free from kijiji.

Walmart has 40$ printers as well.

Will the toner cartridges ever dry up? I print something maybe once every three months, and my inkjet cartridges always dry up because I never use them. Wondering if I switch to laser jet if they'll keep longer?

^^I don't think they can dry up... toner is a powder. There is nothing to actually dry, like an ink jet cartridge (liquid) would.

Just an fyi, ncix and memory express have a colour laser printer from Samsung for 130.00, it's basically 50% off right now. They just got stock later today if it hasn't been updated yet.

I recently picked up a canon color printer and scanner / copier was $35 from London Drugs with a PM from Future shop. @ London Drugs they were selling for $100. Ink replacements are $20 each in store. Also has separate color / black ink
