Favourite Tool/Job Aid

I've been doing more work around the house lately and I was thinking about the tools I use the most, and I easily came up with my top 3.
Disclaimer: I am definitely not a handyman, but this this my main weaponry!

1:
This is kind of cheating because its a "Multi tool" but :Leatherman Wave. I use it all the time for taking tags off new clothes, electronic repairs, opening those vacuum packed eletronics. Camping!

2:
Dirtdevil Scorpion hand vac. This is great for all around use. It comes with a carpet brush which is awesome for doing stairs and whatnot.

1) Leatherman as well.
2) Retractable screw driver with long bits. I'm an idiot for misplacing stuff so this is perfect for me and it's got the long bits to get at the deeper screws. Can't find a picture of it, but got it from home depot and you cannot remove the bits, you press the button and the bit shoots out and press it again and it retracts.

I used to always reach for my bosch impact (identical to what is pictured above) but ever since I bought this makita set, it's all I use (except for big jobs).

Park Tool IB-2 (I have multiple sets) comes with me everywhere I go. Its like my cell phone, I feel naked without it.

Easilly the best cyclists multi-tool on the market IMHO.

I borrowed the impact one day at work (automotive) and ordered the new 20v max the second I got home haha.

Absolutely no real difference between the 12v and 20v as far as power, the battery probably lasts longer on the 20.

What do you think of the Makita one? Thinking of picking up a cordless impact set and having a tough time choosing between Makita. Dewalt, and Ridid. I was gonna stay with Ryobi cause i already have their cordless weed wacker with battery, but the reviews are hit and miss.

Rigid is ryobi - with a better warranty.

I'd be on he rigid if I didn't use mine for work... I went hilti years ago on cordless tools - the difference in power is tremendous - my "18v" impact can run circles around the makita/dewalt 20+ systems... my older 15.6v impacts on dead nicads outrun them for that matter. But of course, I pay for an impact what many pay for a 5 tool kit... :(

I like it alot. I reach for it all the time before any of my bigger drills, but only for smaller jobs. I wouldn't use it for driving 3" screws all day long, however, I have used it to drive 3.5" x 1/4" hex bolts occasionally without issue.

...except with the jigsaw instead of flaslight. For the guy who was asking, I love this makita set, and it takes a ton of abuse. I used that little grinder for doing a whole bunch of small/tricky cuts on tiles at mine and my buddies house, and it was incredible.

Dont go with Ridgid. The batteries on them are terrible. You are forced to buy another shitty battery when the one you have craps out on you.

I dont know if they changed, but mine is a few years old and sucked. I thought it was because I left it in a cold garage for a couple years, but the reviews on it also state the batteries are shit.

^^ I concur. I have a set of Rigid 12v drivers and both batteries won't charge anymore and they are only a couple of years old with seldom use around the house. However my set of Makita is rock solid still ever since I bought them about 6 years ago. The 15 minute charge is awesome. The 18v impact is alright, on paper says it can do about 100ft lbs of torque but I tested it with my torque wrench and it can only do about 80ft lb's, so no good for changing tires but other stuff is fine like deck screws and bolts.

If what someone said about Rigid being Ryobi as well is right, i have never had a problem with my Ryobi battery. Lasts pretty decently but it only powers my weedwacker and my hedge trimmer.

Im looking for one i can use mostly for tire changes, but also for stuff like suspension bolts and what not. With 3 cars in my immediate family, and 3 more belonging to other family, and 3 of those 6 cars have dedicated summer/winter tires having something good for tire changes is kinda important to me. I plan on using it more for automotive stuff then anything else.

Buy a plug in impact if you're just using it at home. I bought mine on sale at crappy tire with an impact socket set for 150$ during a boxing day sale.

I have no need for a 400$+ impact gun at home, when a corded version can do the same.

Which corded version do you have? I find I have to loosen all the nuts on my truck first before I can use the impact, otherwise it just sits there whining.

It's the Craftsman maximum, I usually dont buy craftsman power tools but the price was too good.

I don't think it could take off rusted 150ft/lbs truck lugs, but its taken off all the < 100ft/lbs lugs I've thrown at it, and its helped with the few brake jobs I've thrown at it.

All my family's vehicles have properly torqued and gently lubed lugs so nothing is seized or difficult.

I havent bought a tool from sears in 10 years, shame they slowed down on the tools.

It's still big in the US, but no one in Canada goes to sears for much of anything, let alone tools :(
