This was just listed today, not by me:(

Sophisticated glamour in Bel Air. Absolutely stunning modern family home that uniquely combines the highest design aesthetics with a totally comfortable and liveable family setting. Architecture by Jackson Baker McCormick. Nearly 6500 square feet of perfection with lofty ceilings and an incredible commercial window package...a view from every room. The closest to a "California lifestyle" you will find with an open plan at the rear, a seamless indoor-outdoor connection and a large private yard with the perfect pool, fireplace, outdoor shower and plenty of room for playspace. Dazzling public rooms, superb master suite, secluded home office, sleek kitchen (Poggenpohl cabinetry, Miele appliances + 3 pantries incl butler's), family room + media room (both on the main), oversized triple attached garage, 2 mudrooms and a gym. It has been a long time since a contemporary family home of this calibre has been available in a prime inner-core location.

Offered at 4,350,000

Just take a drive in and around Mt Royal. Blocks away from the scummy residential area of 17th Ave, you'll find cozy little cottages like these:

http://www.realtor.ca/propertyDetails.aspx?propertyId=12153192&PidKey=-477338379

$8,500,000

http://cdn.realtor.ca/listing/reb9/highres/6/c3530166_1.jpg

$4,400,000

Most homes are in the 2-5 million range.

I just did a "little" renovation for a guy in Mt Royal. His house is a corner lot. Freakin HUGE...like I mean probably close to 2 acres. His house is city-assessed at $2.9 Mil.
He's "sprucing" up the place while they're vacationing in France. The bathroom I did was around a $50,000 reno. Complete reno was well over $100,000. He does this almost every year. He's planning on a "major" reno next year. That will be upwards of half-a-mil!

This is just one of his houses. He has another one on the water in San Diego. Few mill as well. Both he and his wife are lawyers for an O&G company.

Full-time on-site housekeeper. He even hired the contractors daughter to live there while they're away....just to dog sit!!

*sigh*

The homebuilding company my uncle and dad own/run built the second bel-aire one... the Cridland designed one. The Cridlands actually lived in that house. Thats the calibre of their average job, and they've always got a few on the go. Like C Dave said, you'll find tons in Mt. Royal. Its mind boggling some of the money in this city.

Just an interesting tidbit about that house, it was featured on a tv show called House and Home with Linda Reeves (correct me on the name if I'm wrong) after they finished. There are some REALLY cool things in that house. There's a whole wall that slides to reveal a "hidden" wine cellar.. in the centre of the house.

Years ago when I was first looking for a house, I actually did take a look at Mt. Royal. There were some houses for sale for around $800K. I should've bought. :burnout:

The reason most of the people have a few million is BECAUSE their area code is 403!

If I had $8 million to put into property, I'd rather have a modest home on a killer acreage in the foothills. I'd much prefer having to feed the horses etc. in the winter than having to deal with crackheads stealing my recycling every week.

These houses inspire me, that's for sure!

I am a bit more modest in size though. If I can find the land, I would love to do a small bungalow like the "Farnsworth house". Maybe make a garage to match....

http://www.farnsworthhouse.org/images/47279B_1.jpg

I think I can build something like this for not much cash. I dont need much more home space anyway.

It is my dream!

I know the realtor on this listing, he mentioned there is an out of town buyer that has submitted an offer. Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming weeks. The upper end market in Calgary seems to be moving really well.

along with everything else in the inner-city.

^Tough choice but I think I'd have to go for the french castle one. Looks more opulent and more floor space. I'm pretty sure the Herald did a piece on that house where they said it was the most expensive house in Calgary.

Not me, Id take the inner-city home over the Aspen home all day long, The lot on the Aspen home is not great at all, no yard, where the Crescent Heights home has a huge lot with a million dollar view. That lot along is worth close to 3,000,000 where the doube aspen lot maybe 1,200,000

This is my thought too. Having grown up with a bunch of people who's parents have places on the Rosedale hill, it's pretty damn awesome. That said, I think I need to hit the lotto first

The reason blocks of 3-4 million dollar homes come on all within days or weeks of each other is cause if sellers get word there is a 4,000,000 buyer looking they want to make sure they get on to have a chance.

The first home in this thread has already come off the market, sat on only a month then was yanked.
