In need of a charity that will actually pass on the clothing to the unfortunate. Got a lot of nice shirts, pants, shorts, sweaters, hoodies, etc. that i dont wear, rather see it go to someone in need.

Got about 2 bags full and more in the basement. Pick-up service would be nice, but not mandatory.

Salvation Army, Goodwill or Value Village?

Edit: Oh sorry. Misread that. Mustard Seed would be a good one.

Call the Diabetes Organization. They regularly come by and pick up donated clothes. You just put it in a big garbage bag, tape a piece of paper to it with a big "D" on it. They'll take it away.

I always drop mine off at the Salvation Army / Cancer Society drop bins at North Hill Mall (parking lot side towards Sait).

I always hated giving my clothes to resellers like the ones listed. Nothing wrong with it but I always felt that the people that need the clothes most likely can't afford it.

I'm a short guy (5'9'') and I take most of my clothing (all non business items) to the emergency youth shelter on 15th Ave. It's run by the boys and girls club for kids 12-17. Just make sure you call ahead and give your info before showing up for security reasons.

Contact info copied from website:

To stay at Avenue 15 or to make a referral, call or come to the program.
403-543-9651

Avenue 15 is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week and is located at:
938 - 15 Avenue SW.

Edited because I forgot to mention that we take my kids clothes/toys and wife's old things to the Sheriff King Home. DO NOT GO THERE WITHOUT A WOMAN. They will think you're an angry husband and you will have a bad day. So make sure she drops the clothing/toys off.

Yup, here in Edmonton I donate to the youth emergency shelter. I like the fact that someone will actually use the items rather than just having them resold for $. Some kid is gonna be nice and happy with my brand new ecco dress shoes that hurt my feet and my faded prada tshirts!

Mustard Seed and The Drop-In take any and all clothing and unlike these other "charities" they don't re-sell them, they give them to people in need.

I donated recently to Brenda's House.

"Is a transitional shelter and re-housing program in the SW community of Killarney for families who are currently experiencing homelessness."

IMO one of the best possible place to donate. They were chosen as one of the 10 best charities in Canada.
I'm not sure how much men's clothing they would need but doesn't hurt to ask. They have a list of things they need most as well. We dropping off 2 car loads of childrens toys and some jackets n'stuff.

I was having the same problem, HATED the idea of dropping the stuff off at a consignment or thrift store because most likely it wouldn't get to the ppl who really need it. I also don't like the idea of someone making money off it.

There's this one too... http://www.womeninneed.net/
