View Full Version : How much would this roughly cost?

I know I should be getting a quote, but I am not ready to get this done this year...

I was wondering, what would a deck like this roughly cost? With or without the roof.

Would it be best that I build the deck on my own and get someone else to do the stucco, etc...?

A deck like that? 30-40k?

Really! You think that much. I presume you are taking the roof into account too.

I'm just guessing based on the picture but yeah, I was figuring the roof and columns in too.

I was thinking about 8 grand to frame/build it all out of wood, couple K for materials, concrete work underneath for support, I don't know what stucco and roofing/soffit/eves costs but I would imagine 6-8 (InRich is the man for that I think?), likely 5K of glass and railing, that nice panelled ceiling would be a few K (depending on material), electrican to do his thing.....I wouldn't think 30 is out of reason but, I don't know residential pricing very well. It's all dependent on size and material choices.

Is there a hell hot enough for stucco? A personal hate for sure. I'd go with wood and skip the crap stucco. Some of these ideas will save a few bucks and not date the project.

Skip the dated glass, pain in the ass to keep clean, go with cables.

Horizontal cables are not up to Calgary code. Just be award if you're building a deck that needs to be inspected.

There is a 2008 750K house two blocks from me that has it. Looks so clean.... and illegal?

Climbing hazard according to Calgary code.

I have a small child and I'm not worried about it, so I did it to the deck I built this summer. It's so much nicer than any other option out there IMO.

Where did you get the hardware and how much was it? I want to re-do the railing on my front veranda. Thanks

Those cables look nice.

Ya Lattice is ugly for sure. What you have posted there looks nice.

I don't know why, but I like stucco. But I can see how it may look dated to some.

I was thinking of just building the deck how a normal build would be done. Then add those suggestions for railings and coverings on the bottom. Or if I wanted stucco just add it on?

I went with the Rail Easy Atlantis rail system, only Canadian distributor is Geo Bezdan sale. Google them for their website, they have full pricing posted on all components.

The wire's not too expensive. I had to run to run 80' of railing and the wire cost around $1100, but the turnbuckles are like $21 a piece and you need 12 every time you end a run or do a 90° corner.

Would that wire be much different than the aircraft cabling you use to hang ductwork off open deck ceilings?

I like that look as well.

I love the dyed stucco too. I think it looks WAY nicer than vinyl siding, and a HUGE amount nicer than wood. To me, "wood siding"=="low income housing projects".

I also think the cables look nice, but the problem that I found when talking with friends is that they don't last. They're instant monkeybars, and over time they sag due to kids climbing on them ALL the time. There's also a minor risk of a smaller child getting their heads caught between them and injuring themselves.
