A few months ago, I posted on here about camera sliders. I decided to take the DIY route and ordered makerslide from Inventables.com.

Ordered all the parts and about half of them have arrived. So far, this project should cost about $200-250 with all electronics and hardware. This gives me the following:

1M Slider
Automatic movement of slider
Automated timelapse electronics

Cut 1"X1" 90 degree aluminum and bolted it into the end of the makerslide (tapped threads first)to make the feet. Then 1/4-20 thread tapped into the middle of the slider for a tripod.

Electronics is slowly coming in. Arduino Uno loaded with miniE powering a stepper motor will be employed.

More to come! Mods can feel free to delete if no one is interested in the end result.

How heavy do you think the set up will be?

Thanks! It will be quite light actually. Makerslide is made out of aluminum. My best guess will be around 5lbs depending on the battery I decide to use. Planning to use Li-Po cells for RC cars that are around 600grams for a 8.2V 5000mah source.

Ran into a major road block. Some of the wheels used on the rail are a little warped. Its causing my camera to vibrate when I move it too quickly. They are sending me new ones so hopefully that fixes the problem. If not, ignus makes some pretty cheap rails also that would work 100%

Here is what the interface for the electronics will look like. Arduino has some pretty tallented developers.

I posted a thread here a few months back. It got deleted due to inactivity since I didnt have time to finish it. Here is the finished product!

Exposure settings, shot interval, movement per shot can all be changed in the arduino interface. Planning to try doing some timelapses after exams finish/snowboard season starts for me.

Here is a video I made with it before the electronics was added. My video production skills are obviously a work in progress.

That's sweet! You should send me a link to the arduino code. I'd love to see what you have built for it so far!
