Finally realizing I should be adding protein shakes to my routine since I'm finally hitting it really hard at the gym.

How do you know which has the best quality?

What am I looking for as far as ingredients list? Protein content? Etc??

Also wouldn't mind finding one that is good quality but also doesn't taste horrible.

I would just go get a tub of kaizen from Costco. Good quality good mixing and good taste with a large amount of protein per serving (35 g)

Myofusion tastes great but kind of expensive...if you wait wait till they go sale once a month at Samsons then its good.

The protein at Costco Kaizens is a very good whey isolate for the money, its on sale now for 38.99

Don't have a costco membership as I live alone and I don't need costco sized anything.

Anyone suggest a good place to pick up protein downtown or in the between downtown and marda loop/bankview?

for whey protein that I take immediately after my workouts, I use the london drugs generic brand. It has a really good profile, and is a great price. They go on sale all the time for around $20 bucks for a 2 lb jug. I get the unflavoured, unsweetened kind and mix in a 1/3 scoop of orange gatorade.

I also have gaspari myofusion that I'm taking before bed, but I tend not to like the flavouring of chocolate or vanilla type proteins.. :barf:

I would recommend ISO Sensation. It is one of the top whey proteins out there, and it mixes really well. You can pick it up at Samsons when they do their Tuesday deal for about 70 bucks for 5LBS if I remember correctly.

I put this up in the Kaizen thread

I actually found an awesome site that's dirt cheap for a lot of stuff. And has the multiples discounting.

http://www.vitamart.com/

Benefits:
-Free shipping on all orders over $49. It ships from Edmonton so expect 2 day delivery. Crazy fast.
-Free gifts in tiers, starting at $99 orders
-Use my ref code JWSLAM6220 for an ADDITIONAL $10 off over $49

My last order consisted of 3x10lb bags of Mutant Whey (note, not Mutant MASS). Worked out to $70/bag, got like 6 samples and 2 shakers out of it.

At these prices I've honestly been trying a different product every time. So far the only one I haven't liked from all my testing is Banana Muscle Milk.

Of course there are different types of proteins which have different absorption rates making them ideal for different times. For quick absorption for pre/post workout I like Allmax Nutrition's IsoFlex IsoFlex (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/all/iso.html)

But Iso Sensation is pretty good too. I mainly stick with Myofusion because it's cheap and has a variety of proteins for time-release. The best tasting, best mixing protein I've had was Magnum Nutraceuticals' Quattro, Chocolate Love. Just too expensive.

For cheap online Canadian prices, I have found Fitshop.ca to be cheaper than Vitamart. Every once in a while they'll have 10%-20% off entire order sales.

For general info: Lyle McDonald on Protein (http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/category/nutrition/protein) (note that there are two pages of articles for protein).

I have used ISO Sensation for years, I like the Vanilla flavour. I went and got Kaizen from Costco yesterday just to change things up.

At Samsons, ISO Sensation 5lbs is $82, but on their Tuesday special it's $65 (20% almost everything)

I got the Kaizen 5lbs at $39 each. This brand/tub has 3g more protein than the ISO sensation per serving (35 vs 32.)

At the end of the day, the question is, how much protein are you getting per serving. Also, what is considered a serving? Also, value wise, what's a serving; because if you have to do 3 scoops per serving to get same amount of protein from a tub, then your tub will not last as long.

I think the brands I mention up there are the best that I have seen in terms of value and amount.
