SO as we get our first snowfall the questions draws nearer: What is good fasionable winter foot wear.
A lot of you work trades so are restricted to wear work boots so not a lot of style/selection there, but for the people with office jobs do you ditch the dress shoes for something a little more functional in the winter?
Calgary has a bad market for this kind of thing I find and it's impossible to find something that looks all right and is warm that won't disentegrate in a month.
Any ideas?

actually a good idea. i dont want to wear my office shoes in the winter snow/slush, but i also dont want to wear my shoveling boots to work and look like a tool.

suggestions would be nice.

Edit: ^ or that, until you decide to run out for lunch/errands or your car gets stuck in a snowbank...

Keep a set of shiny indoor work shoes under your desk, leave your grimey boots in the foyer/closet.

Exactly this, I have a pair of ugly outdoor/winter casual/dress shoes and another pair I keep at the office for when I get there.

I'd be more worried about my toes falling off.

There should be some selection at Browns, Aldo, or Little Burgundy stores.

I leave a few pairs of shoes at the office and change into them. Walking into the office, I have a pair of leather boots with a rubber sole that look reasonably "office appropriate". Most days, I don't even change out of them haha.

I like them, but they're very cowboyish, granted we're in Calgary so it's almost appropriate.

I wear these, awesome boots for winter, sufficient grip on the boot so your not slipping around. Super warm and high enough to handle most snowy sidewalks. Also no laces, slip on slip off, super quick and easy.

if you think selections here are bad, try shopping in Vancouver lol.
For winter shoes on everyday wear, I would suggest bunkers for casual. But please keep in mind you gotta put your punks inside the shoes not outside.
Ugg makes pretty nice leather boots as well. No I'm not talking bout those suede ones that all the girls wear.
The military style is back again this year so I'd suggest boots that look military such like bunkers.

are AF1 fashionable?
I have my trusted AF1 for over 5 years now that I wear almost everyday to work, then I have 2 work shoes that I keep under my desk.

who cares what shoes I wear from/to work since it's only a 200m walk from the parkade to the office.

I wear my ugly waterproof brown leather Merrell's from the car to my buildling. Even with U/G parkade, there's still slush and shit everywhere, and salt and grime is a killer of leather. Also, if say I have a flat tire, I wouldn't want to be changing that in my nice shoes (BTW I do also keep a pair of army boots in my car for that very thing or in case I get stuck or have to help someone or have to go to the car wash, etc...).

Then I have a nice pair of shoes waiting for me at my desk. On top of that, I have a pair of older nice shoes that I don't wear regularly, that I will wear at lunch if I have to venture outside. Yup I have more shoes than my wife, I think. :nut:

+1 for shoes at work. Salt is brutal for leather shoes, especially if it's also on the sole. Even in the summer I'd leave my nice shoes at work. I have a very expensive pair and I'm not baller enough to keep replacing them

Of course if you want something that'll still look good, maybe look at Merrell, Wind River, Red Wing. They're all good boots and aren't nearly as expensive as AE or HB. I mean these are winter outdoor shoes, why bother spend a pile of money. OP's call.

Could always put those cowboy boots to actual use lol.

Hugo Boss actually has some decent boots. They won't serve well for hiking, but for the odd trip outside in winter, they're great. Also, check out UGGs and Allen Edmonds (as mentioned). They have a good selection of boots for men that don't look like shit.

It really depends on how far you have to walk. If you have a long walk, who the fuck cares what you wear. But if it's a couple blocks, a pair of fashionable boots should serve you well.

If you're like me though, and get hot all the time in the office, I leave a pair of loafers at my desk in the winter so I can take off my boots.

Very nice! But not so sure they're be good for trudging through anything more than an inch or two of snow.

I just wear an old pair of basic black upper ankle boots I bought from aldo years ago, and some heavier socks. Other than that just sneakers that I don't mind getting dirty. I'm never far enough out to worry about freezing my toes off, and I have a pair of good ol' dunlops in my car in case of emergency.

They do make traditional men's uggs. People wore them because they're comfortable, not because they're a fashion statement. Well... that's the way it was 15-20 years ago when they sold for $80 and were made in Australia. Now they're $300, made in China and are a fashion statement, which is why people look at you funny if you wear them. I'd still pay $80 for Original Uggs because i value comfortable footwear over fashion. No way i'd touch the new overpriced crap though. Remember that back in the day nobody cared that some surfer in hawaii wore them without socks off the beach. They were cheap, comfortable and good quality. Somehow over time, they ended up in Nordstrom’s with rich yuppies wearing them.

Never said they were cheap here. Everything is cheaper in the states so that's sort of a moot point. Someone asked if they sell them in Calgary, so I answered his question.

I usually wear these:

Timberland Rime Ridge

http://tbl.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTBL1-7874045v275.jpg

The only issue i have is the tongue separates around the ankle, so melting snow has a chance to drip inside the boot when driving. Super annoying.

I have just given up on fashion lately, and wear these to the office:

im in the middle of making myself a new pair of boots that i will use year round but i am putting a topy sole on them ( best of both worlds with full leather insole/midsole and a thin topy layer for better grip on the ice and snow)

I chose a calcutta brown oiled cowhide which will work well in the wet as well. sewed er all up today and threw the eyelets in. i will last them monday and should be done sometime next week, pretty stoked. not just your average cowboy boot hehe

Can you get buffalo or moosehide? Definitely superior to cowhide but likely a lot more expensive I'd imagine.

Were famous for our cowboy boots but we make alot of other styles as well, lace up boots, biker boots, police boots etc. WE can also take something that you like and make up a version of it as well. These would probably go for around $450-495, they would be a fully custom order because everything is hand drawn and cut so it takes more hours than a regular pair of boots.

We sometimes get in buffalo but we use bullhide alot, very similar and looks awesome. its only slightly more expensive than cowhide. As far as i know we have never had in moosehide.

Can't go wrong with the classics, these are great for winter time. Warm and plenty of ankle support. Grippy tread pattern for the ice and snow. Con's would be that they are slippery as hell when you walk on tile. Also, terrible for driving a standard with. But still, I like em.

Whenever I see uggs, I think of the old worn out pair that my Dad bought in Australia back in the 70's. He used to wear them at home all the time for lounging around (never in public!) I never would have guessed they would become this popular back then :D

They turned out great! Really nice shoes, and I love how they're custom made for you. Just too rich for my blood haha. I'll have to settle for something cheaper/not custom made.

I seem to have lost my green ones and was wondering where I could get another set

Yup, came with two sets of laces (from Harry Rosen).

And somebody above mentioned that "UGGS are $100+ more in Canada than the US" - It's because (if it's still the same as about 1 year ago) there is only one 'exclusive' importer/distributor for UGGS in Canada, hence the markup.

Just picked up a pair of these. They were one of the only pairs I could find lined at the toe area.
