Hey, I'm in MKTG 317, and have been really sick, so I've missed a bunch of lectures and have been warned that this means that I'm screwed. So I was wondering if anyone would consider selling me their past notes and/or midterms? I'd be willing to pay you $50

I just threw mine away last week, woops. Good luck, that course is annoying.

Missing lectures doesn't necessarily mean you are screwed - but the notes are tested on more heavily than the textbook material for sure.

The short answer and multiple choice are fairly straight forward, if you know your stuff you will do good on those. For the case, focus on the easy marks to start as the really simple mistakes are the easiest way to get screwed. Make sure you follow Boivons stupid titles and formatting system down because he's far more concerned with that than actual content. (in my opinion anyways)

Is the lecture content significantly different than the textbook material? Is there anywhere else you can get that information other than someone else's notes?

I have my notes from like 6 years ago if you want them

First of all you won't be screwed for the midterm/final. It probably makes the most sense to email your class and explain your situation to them and I'm sure a kind soul will help you out. Hardest part of that class is the group project - very time consuming.

I still have all class notes/exampels, handouts, etc. from last year if you want them. Send me a quick PM with your contact info, if you still need it.

Cheers! :)

Nenshi taught me 317 in 2003. I got an A- in his class.

The tests are easy. Your group is the most important for this class.

Gonna be straight up with ya since I somewhat TA'd for this and prepared the practice midterms. Past midterms can help a tiny bit but if you just keep doing cases that will be better than reviewing an old midterm.

The past notes is key, especially if you missed an in class case. It will show up on the midterm. Don't think you can just "wing it" - you can't do a case if you don't know what's it about.

The question is literally

"
5. Create 3 market segments for the in class case for Acme Company

10/10 marks"

A lot of poor bastards thought Celestial Seasonings was a spice company - it's actually a tea company.

Btw - the course has been completely revamped since Marc took over.

I'm in mktg 317 too but I don't have the notes on my computer, otherwise I'd send them to you. I was wondering if anyone could explain what the alternatives part of the case analysis need to have because Lynn was not clear at all

think of the alternatives as potential recommendations. so 3 ways the company could possibly solve whatever problem they are having. u need to pick between market development, product development, diversification, and market penetration. after u pick 3 of the above for your alternatives, go into details as to why that would solve the case and go into the steps that you would involve. then do a recommendation- pick one of your alternatives and explain why youre recommending it over the others

Anybody know how to do a proper B2B segment, in particular I'm not clear on what you're supposed to talk about for the Psychographic and Behavioural segments :dunno:

For B2B:

Title

Geographic : Location of Businesses

Demographic: Organization characteristics such as the type of industry, size of firm, number of employees, products/ services it provides..etc.

Pyschographics: Industrial beliefs, values, orientation of firm, what is their motivation to buy?

Behavioral:
Benefits derived from the product

Usage: what are they using it for? then list their buying situation as either new task buy, modified re-buy, or straight rebuy.

Yes and no. The short answer and multiple choice is weighted more towards the final half of the class, but the first half of the course (especially for the case) is still tested on in a sense.

I don't think it's necessarily easier than the midterm, but you will have a much better idea of what he is looking for on the test and what he is looking for to earn marks.

For me personally the final exam was harder than the midterm. The case on the final will take you twice as long to complete as on the midterm as the alternatives are significantly longer as well as the recommendation.

I like how it says 6 business days after the exam...that means we should have gotten our marks by December 24....They're just lazy at marking. I know it is a lot to mark, but they have like how many TA's??? lol

Another question, any1 know how important it is to attend tutorials for MKTG 317? Is it like the FNCE 317 tutorials where attendance will definitely help your grade or is it not as essential?

ghomie
01-08-2013, 05:39 PM
Only 3 tutorials you need to attend...The case tutorial, the midterm, and the presentation tutorial...

Attendance is mandatory (I asked him, and he considers it in the group grade). So attend!!!
