or I cant find it....

When you are on your "phone" screen, my old windows phone would search my phone book and recent calls soon as I started typing and displaying close matches.

It woudl search both matching number, or letters that corresponded to those numbers.

I found it very handy.

I guess similar to how Crome on your computer starts displaying search options soon as you start typing in the menu bar on your computer.

I hate windows with a passion, but that was one handy feature.

My GS3 does that Toma, as soon as I start manually entering a number it brings up near matches as I go.

What phone are you using?

You're going to have to check your phone - my Android (Acer Liquid E android 2.2) does what you're asking for.

My HTC Evo does it.

Cyanogenmod does it if you want to flash your phone with one of the best ROMs :)

The menus might be a bit different, depending on what version you are on.

But from the Phone app, hit menu -> Dialpad Settings, and check Enable T9 Dialer. That should do it for you.

I googled T9 dialing on the Nexus, it doesn't seem to support it in stock format from what I could find.

Super gay. Who wants a Google Galaxy Nexus, slightly used, with a "case" (soft rubber, with a hard rear only shell.. On Wind, $300

There are only 2 ways I know of but neither is as easy as your older windows phone.

You can either hit home and bring contact out again hit search icon

or

Hit add caller/line button on lower right and bring the contact/recent call list up. then hit the search icon.

Pure Google phone sometimes lacks these nice 3rd party features.

Well do a little more digging first. Besides, I think there are add-ons that you can install that will then give you the feature. I don't think it's a stock option on any Android OS, I think it's always added as part of a carrier overlay or custom rom, etc.

Why the hell would you get an Android phone to run a stock ROM? o_0

Must depend on the brand of phone and what overlay they may have.

^ Mine too, it's stock but it's a Samsung with their overlays is what I mean. His is just pure.

All Android phones do it, it just has to be a number/name in either:
a) your recent calls list
b) address book
c) Facebook contacts

Stock ICS or Jelly Bean does not do this. Its never worked on my Galaxy Nexus.

Works fine on Galaxy S phones with touchwiz though.

Another reason why stock Android is overrated.

I was about to say... Every stock ROM I have - has had this feature... Even the cheapo Alcatel/Huawei. My current xt860 is terrific at it...

I'm on a Galaxy Nexus also, but on Paranoid Android rom so I guess it's a rom feature.

But, it's Android, which means you can just download a different dialer which will have this feature!

Perhaps this one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kz.mek.DialerOne

Here's a screenshot from my completely stock HTC One X that does this without any modification. When I hit 4, it will show any number starting with 4 as well as anything with a first/last name starting with those letters, as can be seen by the highlighted G and H.

Mar. It's not a stock google experience, you are missing the point. That has some kind of overlay, the Nexus is untouched ICS.

No?

Oh, you mean this could be a feature of HTC Sense and not the underlying Android system? That's definitely possible, I'm not sure if Android has a user interface layer or any sort of interface API available.

Thats correct, the ONE X has the sense ui skin, like Galaxy S phones have touchwiz. Its not stock Android.

Gingerbread, ICS, and JB uses a tab that appears below the cursor when you try to move it so you can move the cursor to where you want it while still being able to see it. Although I would say that the iPhone magnifying glass feature is a little fancier.

If you're running a cyanogen mod ROM or maybe some other keyboard skin like HTC_IME, there's an option that lets you use the volume rocker bar to move the cursor left and right which i find a lot quicker for fixing small mistakes while typing.

That makes sense, Android is built on an MVC architecture so the views are going to be handled by the interface and not the underlying operating system itself. Android could never have this by design.

Because Apple is using only one back end and only one front end on every device, they can incorporate this.
