Same thing happened to me a few months ago. I ordered a Ford ignition key from a guy. First one never showed up. Emailed and seller claimed to send a 2nd one. That one didn't show up either. It was past the 45 days and the seller vanished on me.

Moral of the story, always file the paypal claim when getting close to the 45 day threshold. Too bad if the seller gets offended.....you are simply protecting yourself.

You should have sent it back with tracking and a signature.

This is mostly your fault at the end of the day.

If you realize it's your fault why do you want to know "what to do from here"

Why file a dispute with your CC, just accept responsibility and move ahead in the future. No need to get any else involved and waste their time to come after this guy because you neglected to insure your item.

If I give my package to a carrier pigeon (unionized government employee) and it doesn't make it to my destination, how is that anyone else's fault but my own? Why should my CC company get involved?

If it's not worth it for you to insure in the mail or track, it's certainly not worth the time of your CC company to chase down.

Just file with your CC company. Worst, they can't do anything. There is no penalty for filing a claim with them anyways.
