Whats 50 air miles worth ? Or how far could you fly on it? Just wondering how many you would need to fly to Cali or something

You could probably get from Calgary Airport to Sprinbank airport on 50

Probably need 5000-7000 to get to Cali but that's a guesstimate.

Here is a flight map out of Alberta.

https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/webresource/docs/zonemap_AB.pdf

I've never actually redeemed a flight before so I don't know exactly how accurate that map is. You will also be responsible for paying flight taxes and surcharges. I have also "heard" that booking can be a pain and often the majority of flights will be "full." Hopefully someone with first-hand experience can chime in.

My dad took the whole family on a two week trip to disneyland back in 2002, flights, park and hotel all on airmiles.

I've never booked a flight with airmiles but I've used it for hotels and other goods. Just got a new shop-vac, and have an espresso maker on the way:thumbsup:

Perfect timing, I could use a fill up this weekend

I gave up long ago.

50 points is ~$5 if you go by gift card values.

If you use it for flights, 50 points is worth at most ~$10.

But they devalue the miles every year. When I sign up 10+ years ago, only 600 miles to get to Vancouver. Now its 1000-1200. And other than specials, the way you accumulate miles never changed.

Still since I only use Shell, I still collect.

$20 in gas + $30 gift card = 50 reward miles this time, + more when I use the $30 card to buy gas next weekend

:dunno:

Might be able to stretch it out a bit more

Did you experience any trouble with the booking?

I think my plan will be to buy $50 in gas to collect my airmiles + use my air miles credit card and then do one of their double you airmiles by buying 2 chocolate bar deals.

If you have a BMO gold card ($99 fee), would've only cost you around 2050 (25% off)

sounds like a waste to me, i use centex for 2-3cents off depending on the location (weekends and wednesday), then use my 4% cash back visa, so if i fill my truck for 60l i "save" around $4 each fill up, adds up over time.. worth a lot more than these points card IMO.

Just booked two flights from Winnipeg to Calgary. I booked about 2 weeks in advance and have every flight for WestJet and Air Canada available to pick from.

1770 air miles + $378 taxes.

Airmiles works well for me. On average for most trips to Safeway I get about 1 airmile for every $1 I spend. There are enough items that have bonus Airmiles deals that make this work out pretty good. There are also often "Spend $100 get 100 miles" deals once a month or so and I have at times gotten 200-300+ air miles from just spending $150.

Then you can watch the weekly flight deals at airmiles.ca. Every week certain legs are 40% off and that is why the flights I got were cheaper than normal.

So all in. Spend about $1500 in groceries and get about $500-600 off regular airfare.

Not a bad deal if you work it properly.

615 miles YYC->YVR this week for travel in April if you have Gold status.

That's true but not everyone has a Centex around them and a lot of people including myself like running Shell V-Power in their cars so if there is a chance to get air miles for something you need to buy anyways, why not :dunno:

That's my take too. But I just discovered that I can no longer get Shell gift cert as they switch to Airmile cash. And current miles cannot covert to cash. What a rip off. :thumbsdow

Did this today, thanks again. Does anyone know if there is a limit to how many times you can do this? Both my cars need filling up, so just curious if I can go again today, or wait till tomorrow?

i'd have to fill up my tank twice to get to $50. What kind of gas guzzlers are you guys driving? :p  I guess I could buy a 2L coke for $5 to make up for it :nut:

the last two times they had this promotion I swear I got to like $49.50 and I was full RIGHT to the top (with bronze)

not making the same mistake again, so this time I picked v-power and made it to $51 no problem. plus I get the full 50 air miles instead of only 25 miles if you get $50 worth of bronze.

For you guys trying to fill up exactly on gas, you only have to buy X amount of gas (I think it's $20 or $30) and the rest can be other things. If you are close, just buy a chocolate bar or a pack of gum.

I just got 2 tags from Shell/Airmiles about some new promo. Good til Dec, 50 miles when you pay inside instead at the pump or something. Very vague and weird. So are they paying me 50 miles by not paying at the pump hoping I pick up a candy bar or something?

Sign up get you 50 miles.

Pretty sure it has to be all in one transaction, so if you pay at the pump it will complete the txn and your chocolate bar won't count towards it

Probably not that many.

Calgary to Phoenix (round trip) is 2350 miles in low season and 3150 in high season.

Thanks for the link, you have to remove the "." in the end btw :D

I received the 2 tags as well, vague yes. Something about carrying the tag with you, your first fill or something at Shell and paying inside gets you 50 Miles. Then hold onto it for future deals, that's what I got from it.

this deal is on again, but this time you have to spend $50 with a minimum $20 of that being on V-Power premium gas

The fine print used to read that you got 25 miles if you didn't buy V-Power but I don't see that anywhere. Looks like those folks who don't need premium get left out of the bonus miles this time around.
